About Duke

Adoption Fee: $275
Australian Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Special Needs. A rare 'Red Aussie.' Duke was nearly catatonic in fear when we rescued him from an abusive home. He has since come around with the help of a patient loving foster and a trainer to his affectionate, quiet, gentle self but some things scare him: going into a car, the leash, yelling. This very sweet submissive Aussie is about 5 years old, 55 pounds, loves to be pet, loves to sun himself on the porch and gather his toys into his open crate. A sharp word or an over eager dog pal will terrify him and he will withdraw in fear. There is not a mean bone in his body though. No kids under age 15 since noise and lots of activity will scare him. Duke needs kind and patient people who are at home to give him lots of affection which he reciprocates. Duke is still afraid of the leash so he absolutely needs a fenced yard to romp in; this fear may abate over time. He is wrapping up his fast kill heartworm treatment and doing very well!
