About Huck

Adoption Fee: $150
Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Huck is a gorgeous 5 yr old Australian Cattle Dog who got an unfortunate start to his life. He was abused by teenagers the first 6 months of his life. He was then rescued by a family who kept him safe. We met him as a 4 year old who was very anxious of new people. He has come a long way in his training, but is still fear reactive to new people which can result in fear aggression if not introduced properly. We have worked with a professional trainer to re-socialize him with strangers in a safe and positive way. That has included muzzle training which he wears when out and about. He becomes overly excited when meeting new dogs on a leash, but does well if he meets than in a calmer environment. He loves to play with other dogs, but they do not always appreciate his energy level. He has lived with a variety of sizes and ages of dogs, and does learn to leave the older dogs alone. If you're still reading, here's the good about Huck: He is a seriously amazing dog. He loves his people, and he wants nothing more in the world to please them. He's incredibly smart, and would be a blast for anyone who wanted to teach him tricks. He will play fetch with you ALL DAY LONG! He is an absolute cuddlebug. He is still a high energy breed, but has calmed down considerably, and does very well in the house. He is house and crate trained. In the house with his family he is darn near the perfect dog. Because of Huck's past and his current behavior, we will only consider the absolute best fit for him. He has been with us for 1.5 yrs now, adopted and returned twice, and he either finds the perfect home or he'll stay with us forever. We just want what's best for him because he deserves it. So, his adopter must: -Have a fenced yard -Be experienced in training high energy dogs and/or reactive dogs -Be Active! -Not have children and have no plans for children -Not have cats -Either not have strangers over frequently OR be ok with keeping him crated while strangers are visiting.
