ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS FOR KY: NEEDS DAILY MEDS, POTENTIAL EXTRA VET CARE. NEEDS SOMEONE WITH PATIENCE WHO GIVE HER THE TIME AND SPACE SHE NEEDS TO SETTLE IN AND TRUST. OLDER CHILDREN OR ADULTS. NEEDS DOGS SMALLER THAN HER SO SHE WON'T GET HURT, OR NO DOGS AT ALL. Meet Ky! Ky (formerly Pearl) is a seven year old, female, chihuahua mix that was pulled from a California shelter as a puppy. She was adopted through Smidget and returned six years later. Anyone who gets to know Ky knows that she is truly a wonderful little girl, full of love, puppy hugs, and most of all, kisses! She adores being close to her people, and being warm, whether that is basking in the sun, laying by the fireplace, or snuggled under a blanket. Overseeing the kitchen or windows on the back of couch is pretty fun too. On some occasions she will pull a toy of the basket and bring it over to you to play, before settling down and nibbling on it. Chew sticks and treats are always met with great amounts of enthusiasm! Just make sure she has her own place to settle down and get comfy with her things. She is crate trained, and sleeps in her crate by my bed at night. Unfortunately, despite all of the good things about Ky, she has been dealing with a mystery medical/behavioral conditions for years that causes her to scream whenever she poops. Going potty brings her a great amount of stress. She begins to shake before she has to go, and can run around screaming when it is coming out. Nothing we have tried has brought her relief (and we've tried a lot!). After seeing the specialist early this year, we received an estimate for both a colonoscopy (to check for Colitis) and an MRI (to check for spinal/brain issues). We recently started a go-fund-me to raise money to get both procedures done, and we are offering rewards for those who donate! If you'd like to check it out, click on the link below. https://www.gofundme.com/.../rescue-dog-ky-needs-your... In addition to her pooping issue, she is very sensitive and she screams (a high pitched squeak) and does not like to be manhandled. Once you begin to gain her trust, handling becomes easier, but because she can be fearful she needs a patient adopter willing to give her the time, space, and love she needs to blossom. She is not a dog who will jump into your arms right away, but once you get to know her, she will be as faithful of a friend as you could ever ask for. Because of her sensitive nature, she would be best off in a home that is adult only, or one with respectful older children. A house with a yard is also preferred since she could be loud, and may initially resist being leashed to go outside. Ky is also somewhat dog selective. She has lived with many dogs, but because she is fragile, she should be with dogs that are either smaller than her, or dogs that are lazy and will ignore her. On the other hand, she is fine with our cat! If you think you have the room in your heart and home for this sweet special girl, send an email to [email protected] to submit and inquiry or application. Thanks! NEEDS DOGS SMALLER THAN HER SO SHE WON'T GET HURT, OR NO DOGS AT ALL. Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older, and always before being placed in their new homes. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at [email protected] or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. If you live within a five-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
