About Nala

Are you looking for a buddy to cuddle and adventure with? Meet Nala! Nala is a very sweet rez dog looking for an active, confident owner to help her live her best life. She's about 2 years old, just under 50 lbs, and most likely a cattle dog/pit/shepherd mix. She loves going on hiking, camping, and climbing trips with her foster mom and doggy sibling, and loves snuggling on the couch after a long day. If you often have a full car, not problem! Nala loves small spaces and her favorite is in the footwell of the car! She's just the right mix of smart and goofy to always bring a smile to your face. She can be timid at first, but after about an hour she's all snuggles. Nala came to us after narrowly avoiding euthanasia at a kill shelter in New Mexico, very shy and scared. She's made great progress in building her confidence and has become a very happy and loving pup, but still has a few things she needs help with. She is very trainable and already has great off-leash recall and house manners, and very rarely barks. Nala is great on leash with the exception of meeting new dogs. She's learning how to greet them appropriately but can still get reactive when they get too close or feisty. So far this behavior is less aggressive than it is overexcited, but is still something she'll need a little more training with. She's been doing great with some basic counterconditioning. Off-leash she likes to play with dogs around her size or larger. Nala's ideal home is with a fairly active human who has a little training experience or at least a calm, confident personality. Preferably with another dog 40+ lbs. She is not a good fit for a home with cats or small dogs/animals. Because she is naturally a bit timid, she would also do best in a home without young kids but has no issues with her young neighbors. Nala is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and has tested negative for heartworm. She comes with her own leash/collar/harness, toys, food, and a few other things. Her adoption fee is $125 via Blackhat Humane Society. She's currently located near Steamboat, CO but transport is available to surrounding areas!
