About Kat

Adoption Fee: $325
Dachshund mix
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Female

LOCAL ADOPTION ONLY! Meet pretty Kat! She is a 7.2 pound black and tan Dachshund mix who is approximately 4 months. Kat came to us with her brother Kit (already adopted) from a hoarding situation. She is a sweet and silly girl, but very timid on initial introduction with both humans and dogs likely because she didn't have any socialization prior to coming into rescue. The good news is that she is young and obviously wants to be loved so it only took her a few hours to trust and join her foster dog pack. Trusting her foster humans took a little more time but with a steady dose of positive attention and patience, she has bonded with her foster mom and seeks her out for snuggles, playtime and safety. Watching her learn from her foster pack how to interact and trust humans has been such fun and the reward of seeing her relax and settle into being a pet is worth the wait! For the first few weeks in her foster home, she would dart under furniture if you tried to approach and she was very difficult to catch. She would only sit on the couch next to the other dogs but her fear was too intense to tolerate a human sitting too close. After 4 weeks, she now squeezes in for the spot close to foster mom on the couch and gives gentle kisses. Kat is a super easy girl who responds quickly to training, correction and is eager to learn. She LOVES to walk or rather run on leash. She can get too excited when she sees other dogs out on walks and bark but is taking well to correction. Kat already sleeps in the big bed with her foster family and has finally relaxed enough to snuggle next to her mom all night. She is still learning to understand and trust kids and sometimes barks and runs if they move too quickly around her but shows no aggression toward them. Because of her already timid nature, we do not recommend a home with very young children. We think their fast movements and voices will scare her. Kat adores her dog pack and seeks affection and guidance from them, however, she was timid for the first day and needed patience and time to decide she wasn't in danger. She may growl and hide when she first meets a new dog but her curiosity and need to be in a pack will win her over quickly. She LOVES a box of dog toys and a fluffy dog bed to roll around and play. She is not a fan of cats. She will bark and chase them and we do not recommend a home with kitties. Her potty training is challenging due to her skittish nature but improving with her confidence growing. She won't ask to go outside verbally but does go stand by the door and will follow the other dogs out, so another pet in the home will be your best training tool. Treats will help too! Kat is a good eater and will steal the other dogs' food if she can get away with it. She loves bones and will seek a place to hide and bury them in furniture. Her foster family calls her Miss Mischief because she is always sneaking up to steal something, then she runs off with it like a bandit (shoes, shirts, anything on the floor, etc). She thinks it's a funny game. She does chew EVERYTHING so she must be supervised. Kat is most confident when surrounded by a pack of dogs. It would be good for her to have another kind and confident playful dog in her new home to learn from and to snuggle with. We are requiring a home with another dog in it to help her feel comfortable and continue to grow into being a pet! We are also requiring a home with a fenced yard. Kat has been to the vet for a wellness check and a fecal. She is microchipped, has been wormed, and has had all three sets of her puppy shots. Her rabies vaccine and her spay are also covered by the rescue and will be done at our vet when she is old enough. Kat is a sweet little girl who just needs someone to love her while she figures out a new home and family. If you would like to be her special person please submit an adoption application for review!
