Pal's Place would love to introduce you to a very special dog in need of a very special home! Blue is an ADORABLE, sweet, very friendly, goofy and playful 1 year old, 38 pound, male Terrier mix in need of a special home. Blue is blind, but he does not let it define him or slow him down one bit! This boy has such a happy attitude with a constant wagging tail. He was rescued from an overburdened animal control facility in Kentucky, but is now in a loving and nurturing foster home in Chicago. In just one day, Blue figured out the layout of his foster home and gets around exceptionally well. He'll just need a little patience and encouragement when introduced to new environments but he's always eager to learn and explore. Once he is familiar with an environment, you'd never know he was blind! He zooms around the yard with his canine foster siblings, flies up and down stairs and can even jump over a small baby gate. After multiple diagnstic tests it has been determined that the most likely cause of his blindness is a parasitic infection called Toxoplasmois. Given how well adjusted Blue is to beig blind, his opthamologist feels that he most likely lost his sight as a very young puppy. Most adult dog's immune systems are robust enough to fight off a Toxoplasmosis infection without it causing any real harm however puppies with developing immune systems are more likely to suffer with clinical signs of the infection, blindness being one of them. His veterinarians feel he most likely recovered from the infection many months ago on his own, however he has been started on a course of appropriate antibiotics for treatment of Toxoplasmosis as a precaution. Blue is very social and loves both humans and other dogs. He can still be a bit exuberant in his greetings and mouthy when he plays so he would do best in a home with children aged 10+ We feel that most blind dogs do best in homes with at least one other dog to be there guide dog and we are hoping to find a home with at least one canine companion for him. Blue is honestly one of the most affectionate and loving dogs we have come across and he will make an amazing companion for one lucky household. He loves to give kisses and he just loves to be cuddled and doted on! He is crate trained and does very well with his housebreaking when kept on a regular schedule. He has also had a complete blood panel, a tick borne illness PCR test, heartworm and fecal test along with chest xrays His adoption fee to the rescue is $375.
