I'm Maximus and if I come on a little strong, it's only because I'm excited about LIFE! I like new people and dogs, but I'm working on how to properly greet everybody in a way that will make them like me back. My excitement caused me a little trouble in my last relationship. My previous family didn't have enough time to take care of me and I became increasingly frustrated (and kinda possessive) about my stuff. Now, I'm looking for someone with lots of patience who wants to spend time with me and show me how to maximize my best qualities and minimize my impulses. I love to play with frisbees and balls, gobble up treats and run around the yard. I just want to be the best Maximus I can be, and I'm willing to put in the work to be a wonderful doggy . Max previously lived with 2 adults and 2 children. His previous owner stated that Max will try and snap at strangers, randomly. She further stated that Max is at times aggressive with her two children, a 4 year old and 5 year old. Max has not been around other dogs or cats. His behavior around dogs and cats is unknown to the previous owner. Max does resource guard. The previous owner stated, that when taking away a treat, Max will snap, when taking a toy away, Max will growl. The previous owner further stated that when being held or restrained, Max will bark. Max has a bite history. The previous owner stated that on Saturday 7/18/20, her daughter was inside the home when Max bite her. Client stated that her daughter had a plastic bag containing a water bottle and other stuff, as she went to set it down Max came over and bit her on the right forearm. Client stated that the bite was two small puncture wounds that drew a small drop of blood. Max is partially housetrained. The previous owner describes his energy level as medium. Client stated that Max will urinate and defecate indoors due to Client not taking Max outside often. Client stated that Max Barks too much and is aggressive to people. Client stated that during fireworks and storms, Max is not bothered. Client stated that when touching Max's bowl or food while eating, Max is not bothered. Client stated, when taking Max off of furniture she does not know how he reacts due to never taking him off of it. Client stated when disturbing Max while sleeping or resting, Max is not bothered. Client stated that Max is friendly when being given a bath or being brushed. Client stated that Max is afraid of having his nails trimmed. Client stated when someone unfamiliar approaches the house or family, Max will bark, growl, and snap. -For a New Family to Know Client describes Max as friendly but fearful with a medium activity level. Client stated that her favorite trait of Max is that Max is a protector. Client stated that when she is home, Max tends to follow her around, be in the same room, or stay in the same spot. Client stated that Max enjoys playing with Ball, stuffed, squeaky, and frisbee toys. Client stated that Max enjoys playing fetch, chase, and tug. He also enjoys guarding. Client stated that Max was kept indoors only. Client stated that Max sleeps on the floor. Client stated that Max eats both wet food and dry; kibbles and bites; the blue bag, 2 lbs a day. Client stated that when she is able to take Max outside on walks, Max enjoys going potty on cement. When inside he goes on wee-wee pads. Client stated that when left alone in the yard, Max is well behaved and will bark. Client stated that when left alone in the house, Max barks and whines. Client stated that she has never crate trained Max. Client stated that Max knows sit, come, stay, and heel commands. Client stated that max pulls very hard on the leash. Client stated that for exercise, Max plays in the yard. INTAKE NOTES - DATE OF INTAKE, 20-Jul-2020: When ACS staff member went to retrieve Max, Max approached with a wagging tail but, then he went to sniff staff member and in the process jumped at staff member and barked. [PLAYGROUP NOTES - DOG TO DOG SUMMARIES: According to Maximus' previous owner he had not been around dogs, so his previous behavior is unknown. 8/10: When off leash at the care center Maximus is introduced to a novel female dog. When he approaches the gate, he has a high wagging tail and is on his toes while sniffing her. He then walks away before coming back over. - Hoping for a one special angel to save Max
