About George

Adoption Fee: $150.00
Catahoula / Australian Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Happy, Healthy, Very sweet, Rambunctious Puppy. George 9-12 months old, likely Catahoula and perhaps Cattle dog mix, was found on mid September in the East Mountains. Unsuccessful attempts were made to find his family. He wasn't chipped. I have been fostering him since the 15th. He is a very sweet, lovable, boy. He was clearly well taken care of and loved. He is a high energy dog, on the dominant side which to some extent is likely fed by his being a youngster and not being spayed. I have had George just over a week when making this post so these impressions are for a dog new to my home. George will need a home where he gets a lot of exercise and an experienced dog owner who is capable of strong pack leadership. In such an environment, I think he will be an awesome dog. He gets along really well with my other dogs and loves to play. He is alright with my cat but I feel like I need to keep an eye on him as he can be kinda rough. Reminds me of my 2 y/o GSD when she was his age. I suspect he will grow out of it but of course I can't be sure. He is crate trained and toilet trained. He peed in the house to mark, and has been demoted in status which I think helped. George is learning to sit, stay, come. I am not sure if his behaviors are just inconsistent, or if at times he is being an obstinate pre-adolescent. I think likely a combination of both He is food motivated which makes training easier. He was evaluated by a vet who found him very healthy. The vet, based on teeth, and I, based on behavior, assume he is 9 months to a year. During his vet visit he was chipped. I think he would likely do well with a family and children. I haven't seen him directly with kids but he sometimes runs along the fence to play with my young neighbor. I sense, and again can't be sure, he'd be great with kids, just needing a bit of guidance. He would also do well in a home with another young dog to help him play and get his exercise. He is really great at playing. He is currently 48 lbs and could get up to around 60 lbs. He is a really great dog and I am confident in the right home he will be a beautIful light of companionship, fun, joy, and connection. Please be familiar with the Catahoula breed before emailing. This isn't a breed for first time owners. If you are interested please contact me through rescue me
