About LunaMae

Adoption Fee: $300
Bullmastiff mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Luna Mae has been with me since about mid-June, 2020, when I adopted her from a family with children 10-16 years old. I was told she was being rehomed because she spent too much time in her kennel. I have close friends who have two Cane Corsos on acreage. I dog sat for them several times, both at their place and at my house, and I fell in love with the breed. I have to admit that I am elderly and unathletic, and have never had a dog, but I have a large fenced yard, so when the littermate of one of my friend's dogs needed a new home, I thought I could provide one. Luna Mae and I bonded immediately; I tell friends she is like Velcro! She came to me house trained and crate trained, but apparently had not been leash trained or trained to commands. I knew she needed more exercise and stimulation than chasing toys in the yard, so I began walking her in the neighborhood. All went well until she saw a little dog I did not see, and she bounded to greet it. Her leash, around my wrist, pulled me over and I had injuries to my left wrist, right arm and leg. Luna Mae was not aggressive to the little dog- she only wanted to greet it. Over two months later, I am still healing slowly. After my injuries, I hired a highly qualified dog trainer for four sessions at my home. Luna Mae minded the trainer's commands, showing she is smart and trainable, but I need much more work. Given Luna Mae's size and strength, it breaks my heart to realize I am over my head with a large, strong, and active dog, and I need to find her a perfect forever home. She loves people. She greets people with excitement, not aggressiveness. She seems to especially like men. She bonds quickly. She needs an experienced dog owner who is kind yet can show her that she is under their control, not the other way around. She will come with a kennel, her dishes, harness and leash, and lots of toys and whatever food is left at the time of her re-homing (I currently have about 25 lbs. each of beef, chicken and lamb kibble).
