Please read the below information thoroughly about this dog and if you are interested in fostering or adopting, please fill out the pre-screener form: https://bit.ly/NewHopePreScreener While Maximus has shown social behaviors with familiar staff in the care center, he continues to display a high level of anxiety that manifests through mounting behavior. In his previous home Maximus had bitten a family member that resulted in broken skin. He has a behavioral history that reports he will try and snap at people at random without warning or cause, whether they are in the house, or by-standers when out on a walk, and/or when strangers coming into the home. He will approach to sniff and them jump up and snap, which he did with a staff member when coming into the shelter. Maximus has resource guarding surrounding treats and toys ( he will snap when treats are being taken away and growl if a toy is taken away). Due to his high level of arousal he has been managed with pharmaceutical interventions , so the behavior team cannot determine for certain what his true behavior would reflect when not on the medication. Maximus has displayed potential to improve with continued pharmaceutical intervention, coupled with a behavioral modification plan, and would benefit from a quiet, adult only home environment with an experienced foster. I like new people and dogs, but I'm working on how to properly greet everybody in a way that will make them like me back. My excitement caused me a little trouble in my last relationship. My previous family didn't have enough time to take care of me and I became increasingly frustrated (and kinda possessive) about my stuff. Now, I'm looking for someone with lots of patience who wants to spend time with me and show me how to maximize my best qualities and minimize my impulses. I love to play with frisbees and balls, gobble up treats and run around the yard. I just want to be the best Maximus I can be, and I'm willing to put in the work to get there!
