About Smiley Toby Wally

American Staffordshire Terrier / American Bulldog
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Sometimes, when you can't decide on a name for your pet, you might give them two names, as in TOBY WALLY (#A1684042). Well, I think this boy should have a third name added, 'Smiley,' because he always appears to be smiling. Smiley TOBY WALLY is a 7-year-old, playful boy, who was surrendered to the East Valley Animal Shelter, Van Nuys, CA, for, allegedly, biting a child in his home. He is Rescue-Only. Smiley TOBY WALLY seems to like remaining close to the humans sharing space with him. He is treat-motivated, sits and waits patiently to get a treat, and can catch them in mid-air. Shelter employees, who have interacted with Smiley TOBY WALLY, have made several notes about him. Here are several: MAILBOX (Thu, Sep 10, 2020 3:32 PM) ENGAGEMENT TRAINING Animals: TOBY WALLY (#A1684042) easy to leash in kennel, was a bit leash reactive walking to yard, bit on his leash but corrected quickly. Very attentive and seeks affection from handler. Played fetch and did not display any resource guarding with ball or when he dropped a treat. May have eyesight problems- had difficult tracking a ball in the air and finding it on the ground. Overall easy to handle once he's in the yard, nonreactive to being approached and pet. PLAY GROUP (Thu, Sep 3, 2020 1:49 PM) reactive to some dogs at the gate. seemed to be more uneasy with a large volume of dogs in the yard. Seeks handler. Went at a female shep but responsive to tools-no injuries. Able to still be in the yard but still sought handler MAILBOX (Sat, Aug 29, 2020 6:41 AM) ENGAGEMENT TRAINING 8/28/2020 Animals: TOBY WALLY (#A1684042) Toby was already in the yard, he is just been released from OBS so I went in very slowly he is very fearful. I let him warm up to me before I tried to pet him, he did take treats very gently and did sit for me after trying for a long time. He was most relaxed when I sat down, he sat next me and enjoyed the affection MAILBOX (Fri, Aug 28, 2020 8:47 PM) BEHAVIORAL Date of Interaction: 8/28/2020 Animals: TOBY WALLY (#A1684042) 'Toby Wally' off-leash intro with spayed Husky. https://youtu.be/tGHg13_S_70 PLAY GROUP (Fri, Aug 28, 2020 12:44 PM) prior to his playdate, spent time in the office. Able to pet, seeks attention. Knows 'sit' and 'down'. Had a playdate with a spayed husky type Attached to handler more and checking in. Had interest in the other dog. Able to toss a ball and he did not display ny resource behavior with that item. Able to leash and move back into kennel without incident. Both dogs did not interact directly with play BEHAVIORAL (Fri, Aug 28, 2020 12:13 PM) Toby Wally visited our office today. I was cautioned not to approach him, and when I came in, he walked right over to me and sniffed me with loose body posture. When I sat down, he came up and bumped my hand with his head. I scratched and pet his head while he sat and panted, and every time I stopped, he nudged me for more. He laid down by me for a bit as well. BEHAVIORAL, GOOD BEHAV (Tue, Aug 18, 2020 1:29 PM) 09/18/20 When aproaching the kennel door, he was hanging out toward the back. I used baby talk to call him up and he aproached. Once he saw the leash, he wagged his tail, mouth open, tongue out. He let me leash him through the door gap and had medium energy pulling me to the yard. Once in the yard, he explored and immediatly urinated and defecated. He comes when you call his name. He was very attached to me while in the yard and not leaving my side. When I sat down, he sat next to me and eventually laid down. He responds to his name. Does not seem interested in biscuit treats. Easy to releash and easy to get back in kennel. Being that his excitement led him to grab his leash when exiting the yard for a moment (was easy to correct) I decided to remove the leash at a distance through the door with the special clip. There you have it, for now. So, hopefully, there is a rescue that will save TOBY WALLY so he can smile on! He'll make you smile, too.
