About Laura

Adoption Fee: $325
Chihuahua / Rat Terrier
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Female

LOCAL ADOPTION ONLY! Meet lovely Laura! She might be a teeny 4.4 pounds, but her size does not hold back this happy, energetic, and confident 13 week old Chihuahua Rat Terrier Doxie mix! This little firecracker was owner surrendered to us and arrived at the same time as Hurricane Laura. She is all black except for a small patch of white on her chest and a few small white spots on her toes. We believe she will be about 12 pounds fully grown. Laura loves to take walks with her foster family and doesn't seem skittish or shy of noises. She also loves to play with other dogs, but is a bit cautious and fearful around rambunctious bigger dogs due to her smaller size. Laura's foster siblings keep her entertained with lots of wrestling, tug of war, and chase games. She seeks out other dogs for playtime, and also joins them to nap in a puppy pile. She would do best in a home with at least one other active dog willing to play and able to keep up with a puppy, so that is what we are looking for. Laura is very persistent in her efforts to play, so she needs to be with a tolerant and energetic pup. She hates to be left alone and will cry and cry if she can't see her people, but she will calm down and happily chew a toy if you are visible to her. Using a puppy pen is highly recommended when she is unsupervised to keep her safe and to help with potty training. She is all puppy and will chew on anything she can reach, so you will want to keep an eye on her and redirect her to appropriate toys. She is doing well with her potty training as long as supervised and taken outside when she wakes up, after playtime, and after eating. Supervision, routine, and frequent potty breaks are the key to successful puppy potty training! Puppies need to be taken out about every 30 minutes while awake to potty train while they are young. Laura will go potty while leashed and is fine on a leash and harness so a fenced yard is not required for her. Laura is a voracious eater and will often try to steal her foster siblings food. She sleeps in the big bed with her foster dad and mom and three other pups at night, but does need help up as she's still too little to jump on her own. She is cat curious but has not chased the cats in her foster home. Laura loves all people she meets and enjoys the 2 human kiddos in her foster home, however due to her very small size a home with small children is not recommended. Laura has had two sets of puppy shots, has been to the vet for a wellness check, is fecal tested and wormed, and microchipped with a lifetime registration paid for by the rescue. Her third set of shots is covered by the rescue, as well as her rabies vaccine and spay as soon as she's old enough. We are looking for a family who has the time to play and train sweet spunky Laura and help her grow up into the healthy dog she is meant to be. If you would like to make Laura a part of your family please submit an adoption application!
