OMG, 'G' standing for GAGE (#A1809373), who is so engaging! Yet, he has been in the East Valley Animal Shelter, Van Nuys, CA, since April 20, when he was surrendered for 'cost/medic,' whatever that means. What greeted me today was a jovial 5-year-old, who ran to me for some petting and treats. GAGE is treat-motivated, sits for treats and takes them gently from the hand. And he loves to chase a ball, although he hasn't quite learned to return it and 'leave it.' Shelter employees, who have interacted with GAGE, have given him mixed reviews, although most are positive and include: 'Gage was easy in and out. He knows sit . He has a calm demeanor and was very friendly.' 'Gage is very excited in his kennel. I take him out through the back cubby. He is kind of a character. I think his owners rough housed him and played a lot of tug . He really likes to pick up toys and toss it at you. When you go to get it, he grabs it first and takes off running with it. Loves to play keep a away. Previous I felt he was growling at me but as I have spent time, and now realize he is talking and he doesn't seem aggressive. He always has a stiff tail the seems to never change but he doesn't have hard eyes anymore and it seems in a playful fashion.' The negative notes appear to be based on his kennel behavior, when he first arrived at the shelter. GAGE has participated in playgroups and notes state: 'tolerated a vocal and pushy shep mix, responded appropriately to get him to slow down/back off (responsive to our tools)' 'met other dogs (12+ in the yard); tolerates dogs following him. Gets interested in chase play' Five months is too much time for this fun-loving, affectionate boy to be in a kennel.
