About Pancake

Adoption Fee: $450
Corgi
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Pancake is in foster in LA CA. PLEASE READ HIS ENTIRE BIO. He is an amazing Corgi but does need to be an only dog with regular play dates outside the home. ABOUT PANCAKE: 3 years old, 27 lbs. Current on vaccines, neutered and microchipped. Pancake is the perfect embodiment of a Corgi; so sweet, quirky, quick-witted and so much more. He's very smart, eager to please and full of energy! He is VERY athletic and really enjoys activities that help exercise his mind and body. He thrives with obedience and agility training, and will do best in a home with adopters who will consistently and continuously engage him in daily physical and mental exercises to practice, challenge, and expand his knowledge. He LOVES to fetch (and always brings it back) and tug-of-war, and will 'drop it' when asked to do so. He's not particular about what type of toy he loves; it's fair game to his enjoyment. He really enjoys his walks and hikes and will need a family who is active to provide multiple walks daily. When walking on leash, he would previously become reactive and lunge and bark at other dogs walking by or dogs in their yard barking at their fence, but has since learned to control himself (with the guidance of the person in charge) and to maintain a loose leash at-heel command to walk calmly at his foster's side. At parks and free-roam outdoor spaces like a yard, he is amazing with other dogs and plays appropriately and like a typical Corgi. He loves to chase and sprint and tumble around with his buddies. Like most herding breeds, certain objects and sounds can be a little scary; lawn mowers and vacuums in particular and he needs to bark at them and herd them. He's a bit uneasy around water sprinklers and the water hose, but is getting better at that with obedience and patient guidance. In these situations, he is put in a down-stay and then 'leave it'. Pancake is generally very quiet and chill in the house and only barks if he hears something outside or the doorbell rings. He's perfectly crate-trained and much rather prefers his crate for naps and night-time sleep. (Foster tried him in the human's bed and Pancake proved he likes his own space/crate). Pancake loves hanging out in the yard. He'll run around on his own and then settle down with a stick to chew. When on a schedule, he is perfectly potty trained and hasn't had any accidents in the home. He does like to jump up on people at times, and also jumps up on doors when he wants to go outside/inside. For this reason, we require his future home have no children under age 8. Pancake is very friendly with people! He knows obedience commands such as sit, down, stay, heel, come, drop it, leave it, off. Most commands he knows at basic level and it is highly recommended and imperative that his new parents help him progress to an advanced level of obedience training to help control his impulses. He LOVES to rollover! It's so cute and part of his charm to demand a belly rub! Pancake is highly food motivated and unfortunately it is his one and only fault. His food motivation; while typical in the breed, is obsessive and impulsive. Pancake is a resource guarder when it comes to food, bones, treats and sometimes high value toys when it comes to other dogs. He does not resource guard with humans. This issue is the reason Pancake must live as an only dog in his future home! NO EXCEPTIONS! His future family should continue to enrich him with dog socialization in the form of play dates (outdoors) or doggy daycare at least twice a week. There should be absolutely no treats or high value items agreed upon ahead of time. Pancake absolutely loves to play with other dogs in this social type of setting and in fact, he thrives on it. If you feel you can provide a loving, balanced, active home and commit to continued training with Pancake, he will bring so much joy, smiles and a wonderful relationship to your life. We would prefer Pancake be adopted within a two hour radius of his current northern Los Angeles CA location.
