About Scruffy

Meet Scruffy, our super duper handsome male Labradoodle boy that just turned 2 years old. Scruffy came from a home where he lived with five children between the ages of 3 and 14, and 4 other dogs, from Great Danes to medium-sized dogs. And he loved them all! He did not lose his home because of anything he did there. Unfortunately, Scruffy has been diagnosed with Addison's Disease. Now this isn't nearly as bad as it sounds. Scruffy just needs to be on medication for the rest of his life, and he will also need to have an injection every three weeks. You can have injections done at your vet's office, or if you'd like to learn how to do them at home, they will allow you to do that also. The medication, depending upon your vet's office costs approximately $150 for a vial which will last for two (2) injections or six (6) weeks. Again, this cost may differ depending upon your vet's office. See, one of the things that can affect or trigger his symptoms becoming much worse in a hurry is stress. And with all of the action in a house with 5 kids and 5 dogs, you can imagine why it wasn't the best fit for him. For this reason, he must go to a home where he can remain relatively calm. It would be great if he had another dog there, but probably not more than one or two. Kids are OK, as long as they are older and would understand about not running, screaming, crying, etc around the dog. Now onto more GREAT selling points on this amazing boy. Scruffy does not know a stranger. He loves everyone he meets, both two and four-legged. He is house and crate trained, and is amazing on a leash. He is a happy loving boy with lots of energy. You might wonder if him running outside is OK, but it absolutely is. He can still live his life like a dog should. Whether it is playing with toys or zoomies in the yard, he is just always happy. He knows how to sit and lie down, but still needs to work on his manners when it comes to jumping and being mouthy. He is most happy when he gets to snuggle with you on the couch or in bed. He loves to watch tv, mostly DIY and HGTV. He also loves car ride sand likes to sit like a human in the front seat. Scruffy is up to date on all vaccines including leptospirosis, has been microchipped, and neutered, and is ready for his new home where he can be doted on and loved. He is in foster in Bradenton so any meet and greets would need to be scheduled to be done there. His adoption fee is $450 which will include one more injection on or around September 19 with our Vet. This is a $75 value. We will also include any leftover Prednisone (the daily pill medication) that he has left over.
