Bichon Frise / Poodle
Age: Senior

[Read About Natural Incontinence Care] Roscoe was brought to the Galveston shelter by his owner who asked to have him euthanized. Thankfully, the shelter saw how much life Roscoe still has in him and reached out to see if a rescue would take him, which we did. He was flown to us in Dallas, TX via pilots n paws. Unfortunately, Roscoe had been SEVERELY neglected for a long time. Something happened to him a long time ago and medical intervention was not sought in time. Now Roscoe is paralyzed forever. When we got him, he was in AWFUL shape. Filthy... he'd been laying in his own feces and urine for a LONG time. He had urine burns all over his legs and belly and oozing sores, his nails were so long and his teeth were in dreadful shape, we took him to a neurologist who found that he can't move or feel his right leg, tail or the outside digits and flexor muscles of his left pelvic limb. He can feel the inside digits. He may even have some voluntary movement of the flexors of his hip. However, because he can't bear weight effectively in the limb, he's unable to use it to walk on three legs. There are numerous possible causes of his paralysis. Regardless of the underlying cause, because of the severity of his spinal cord disease (he can't feel his feet) as well as the chronicity, there is no treatment for any neurologic improvement. He will remain a paralyzed dog for the rest of his life. The good news is that Roscoe has a wheelchair, which he's a natural at using. While we can't know his long-term prognosis for sure, it's entirely possible that Roscoe will live for many more years as a happy handicapped dog. He's full of energy, has a lot of great spirit and a gregarious nature. Roscoe doesn't have bladder or bowel control so his bladder needs to be expressed a few times/day. It's not difficult, in return for caring for him, he will reward you with SO much love and devotion and make you smile, he loves to go on walks and get attention from everyone, and he just wants to be part of the action. He's feisty, affectionate, cheerful, playful, sensitive, gentle, intelligent, active, alert, faithful, and incredibly sweet. Please give Roscoe the loving forever home he deserves. You can meet him at the Plano PetSmart, 6204 West Park Boulevard, Saturdays and Sundays from 1-5. You can make a donation on our website, https://www.poochsavers.com/donate/, thank you and PS, Roscoe's adoption fee is reduced thanks to a grant from The Petfinder Foundation
