About Ely

Adoption Fee: $350
Jack Russell mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Ely is available for foster only at this time. He was one of six dogs willingly surrendered by hoarders. We got him out of the shelter the end of June 2020. he has been here for a year, and he is not for the faint-hearted. He is very very submissive, scared, shy - whatever word you choose to use. He is not going to be for the average person looking for a dog. He is used to women more than men, but he has been exposed to both. Patience and continuity are the key with this boy. I do consider him unsocialized and he has a ways to go. We are looking for someone experienced with unsocialized dogs that are willing to work with him at HIS pace. That means no walks in suburbia, a fenced yard and minimal contact until he approaches you. You MUST have some knowledge of dog behaviour, feral dog experience a plus. Ely is a project dog. And know when he can be pushed just an inch. He has come a long way from when I got him, but he has a ways to go. He is ready for the next step out of my house with an experienced dog savvy person. We think he will make an excellent dock diver down the road,he likes water. Ely will need a home with other dogs that are kind and confident, not pushy or jealous. He needs a fenced yard, he still spooks very easily. He is a dog that is very sensitive to your moods and behaviour. If you are angry, in a hurry,or upset he will not come in the house. Most of all he needs someone with love, patience, some dog knowledge - oh, and did I say patience?? He sleeps on the bed with me at night and allows petting in that setting. He loves Tellington touch, massages. I can pet him at times during the day if my movements and demeanor are not frenetic. He can pick up on your mood in a heartbeat. He takes food readily out of your hand. He can be groomed. He loves to play in water and does play with other dogs. He likes to dig. He is under my computer desk when I am working. He soooo wants to trust 100% but is not there yet. New people will set him back. He is off Trazadone and has been for over a month and doing well. He is housebroken and crate trained 100%. There are many more things we can talk about with Ely, but will save that for someone that is truly interested. Ely is currently located in Bradenton. Please contact us if you are interested in him. He is a truly wonderful dog underneath the layers that are peeling away. A very good dog. Waiting for the right person. I am going to reiterate the requirements for Ely.. First of all let me ask a few questions. How do you get a dog out of a crate if they do not want to come out? How do you get him outside to do his business?? If a dog is so scared he will not eat what will you do?? Do you let him have full access to your home? your yard?? there are many things we take for granted when we want a dog. Ely is a project dog, and there IS an appropriate person out there for him! 1. He will need a fenced yard period. 2. He will need another kind playful dog 3. He does NOT walk on lead, we are learning. you cannot walk him in your neighborhood. You will need to carry him and put him in the car. He doesnt know what kids, bicycles, and lots of cars are. 4. You must have some knowledge of how to read dogs. If you have had an unsocialized dog before kudos, He will need double leashing and a harness. He will regress some in a new environment. If you have no experience you will need to talk a good talk. I have had a jack russell before will not cut it. 5.You must have patience with this type of dog. If you are in a hurry to show him off, display him to your family etc. forget it. Testing him is good, throwing him a party within a month of getting him is not unless you can judge if he is ready for that next step. And the next step is one new person maybe two. I will be happy to talk to people about Ely. I have gotten inquiries that have been really out of place for this dog. This is plain facts so please read and digest. If you are up for a project dog, he has already been started, we can discuss the finer points. All other folk please please look at another of our dogs. Before you put an application in on Ely, please ready his bio. Thank you. For more information on our adoption process, visit the Adoption Information page of our website: ewenityfarmsbch.com
