About Ginger

Great Dane
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

Ginger is a 9 year old Dane. I have had her since 12 weeks. Due to corona I am unable to provide for her adequately. She will be euthanize the first week in October if I can not find an appropriate home for her. She has dog agression and would do best in a home with cats that are friendly and use to dogs. She has cataracts and her vision is limited. She is an anxious emotionally attached dog and requires a consistent human or family and enjoys closeness and affection. She does not do well with small children and is most comfortable with calm relaxed people. She has eaten a combination of Blue Buffalo dry kibble and quinoa, sweet potatoe, zucchini, carrots or raw egg. She has never been fed straight dry kibble and does not free feed. She does not do well with free feeding. Her stomach is untacted. She is trained on leash and does not tug or pull or walk infront. She stops when you stops and walks when you walk. She is also trained to bark at outside noises and does not stop until pet and told good job. She plays fetch and tug of war and occasionally will chase my hand around if I rile her up enough. She can do easy hikes. I do not take you outdoors for long periods of time in extreme weather. She does not do well with vet visits and usually has to be forcibly removed from the car. She needs a relaxed easy going comfortable home where she is a companion and her emotional needs are met. At this stage in life she's content lounging I front of a tv for long periods of time. Can only hold pee for 6 hours max. This is not a 9 to 5 40 hrs work week kind of dog. Either my husband or myself have always worked part time and been with her for majority of days. My husband has since past and it's just me and I have worked consistent part time and spend majority of my free time with her. This is a dog that will require work the older she gets. If you can not lift 50 lbs on your own you are not fit to care for a dog of this size in this stage of life.
