About

Adoption Fee: $75
Maine Coon / Russian Blue
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Lowen Laroy aka Leo is a handsome blue gray silver medium hair male with a little bit of the cross eyes. He is approx. 2yr and his adoption fee is $75. He has been vetted, neutered, and he tested -Leuk +FIV. He is good with other nice cats and older kids. Dogs? Leo definitely had a home before but was probably dumped. Whatever happened he was smart enough to have made his way to a feral cat feeding station where he was first spotted on top of a dumpster. We now know that it was because he was getting away from the colony toms who were beating him up. He is a lover not a fighter. They got ahold of his arm pretty good which required stitches but he is healed and safe now. A feeding station is where feral-wild cats are TNR'd - trapped neutered released and fed. Cats form colonies like this because irresponsible people abandon them, tossing them out like trash. They roam to find food then a loving caring concerned citizen starts feeding these starving cats forming a feeding station. They get TNR'd to prevent kittens, ear tipped so others know that these cats are fixed. The cats 'work' for us taking care of the mice, roof rats, scorpions and roaches, but they must be fixed. The 'wild' ones will survive because they are smart enough to elude predators and sick people. The 'tame' ones need to be taken in, they aren't smart. PETS ARE FAMILY MEMBERS. PLEASE GET HELP IF YOU CAN NOT KEEP A PET. MAKE THE EFFORT! IT'S A LIFE! Leo is a soft, gentle, loving, laid back sweetheart. He looks like he is huge in the pictures but he is a typical 10lb cat with really soft fur. Although he hasn't jumped in a lap on his own yet, it's easy to pick him up, then he just loves being on a lap and pet. He loves his jowls massaged and will purr loud. He loves adults because they don't run around and make a lot of unnecessary loud noises. He would be purrfect for a person who wants a companion to love on and to get love from. The foster parents' cats won't let him have the whole house but he waits by the door to his room and greets them with a meow purr. Then he will take them over to show them how good he is on the carpet scratching post. He desperately wants to become part of the family. Leo tested negative for Felv (leukemia) and tested a very faint positive for FIV. The vet was very surprised considering he received such a healthy summarization and had no difficulties with his neuter. If you are at all familiar with the latest information, you know that, even though he wants to be an only pet, a FIV positive cat can live just fine with other uninfected cats and not transmit the virus. They no longer have to be adopted into homes with only other positives. The disease is transmitted by deep bite wounds from intense fighting typically from unfixed cats. They can also live long healthy lives. We don't expect much of an adjustment period for him as he really just wants to near his people. He will go into his new home and in a couple days own it. He hasn't shown any desire to play but interactive toys like feather on a stick and shoe lace drag as well as the Fling ama String and the $2 'cat dancer' toys might be advantageous. He loves kitty treats, a rectangle corrugated scratcher that lays flat on the floor and a tall cat tree sitting in front of the window with sun rays beaming in. He will expect to share your bed. He has been free fed quality hard food (quality meaning the first ingredient begins with meat) and gets up to a can of Fancy Feast morning and night. Below information is for preventative purposes%BD'%BD| Too many male AND female cats are getting the UTI - urinary tract infection and crystals in their urine. It's a blockage, it's painful and if ignored will lead to death. Vets say the hard food is at fault because it does not deliver enough liquids. It's simple to monitor. Just make sure there is at least one good size pee ball in the litter box a day. Kitty fountains are effective to help manage a cat's fluids. A diet of good quality canned food pate is better than dry food however there are some dry foods that are pH balanced and help maintain Urinary Tract - UT health like Blue Buffalo, Purina Pro Plan, Purina One UT health, Iams UT health.
