The shelter staff think I am about 5 years old, and I have been at the shelter since August 21, 2020. I'm scheduled to be euthanized in the next couple of days due to my poor behavior. I am under-socialized and have lived in a backyard all of my life....sad huh? Geez ...what some people do to us dog's. I need to be assessed, trained and socialized in a proper foster home that will work with me... Can you all pull together and help me? Before I came to the shelter, I lived in the backyard and was never ever in my owner's house or around other people except for the family that owned me. I don't know if this is true or not, but my owners told the shelter they could not have me anymore where they were living. I have been struggling with interacting with people. Sometimes, I can relax just a little and will give a tail wag or allow petting along my back. But more often than not, I feel tense and wary. When this happens, I might get stiff, stoic, and hard stare; and if I am really scared, I might growl or bare my teeth. When I did my dog-to-dog evaluation, the shelter said I tolerated greetings despite being stiff and wary and showed interest in a playful dog in the yard. So I am pretty sure I am OK with other dogs. I am hoping someone experienced with fearful dogs like me, will step up to save me. It wasn't my fault that I didn't get a chance to meet people and learn to trust....
