About Gia

PLEASE READ GIA'S BIO THOROUGHLY BEFORE INQUIRING. This is our gorgeous girl, Gia! She came to us when her owner used her over and over for breeding, but got overwhelmed with too many dogs, and decided to (thankfully) surrender the family to us. Gia is a 4 year old Shih Tzu/Terrier (more terrier) mix who is about 17lbs. She definitely needs another dog in the home, preferably male (doesn't get along well with females) and her size or smaller. She takes time to warm up to a dog, so we need her in a home with a friendly but playful dog. She CANNOT be an only dog. Gia loves being outside so we want to place her in a home that has a safe and secure backyard where she can play and sunbathe. GIa is a bit of a bark talker (thats the terrier in her) so she cannot go into an apartment or condo type home. With outdoor access, she seems to be potty trained, but every now and then she gets a bit lazy and potties right in the house, so an owner who is patient with this issue is a must. Gia is a dog that needs grooming every 6 weeks or so and tends to have itchy allergies in the spring and summer, so she needs an owner that can financially take care of monthly grooming and get her a cytopoint shot for allergies from the vet every 8-10 weeks which costs approximately $100. Gia is great with kids and loves to snuggle once she feels safe and secure in her home. She can be a flight risk for the first few months when she transitions into a new environment so her new home will be required to have a 3ft doggy gate or wrap pen at the front door for the first few months. She will definitely try to get out when the front door is open so this will be a MUST. This sweet girl didn't have the best life, but things are looking up for her and we want to place her in the most amazing forever home we can find!
