About HOSITO

Shiba Inu mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Courtesy posting. CODE RED! HOSITO is a younger dog listed as a 3 year old, 32 lb Shiba Inu mix who has been at the Baldwin Park Shelter for over two months. He was made Rescue Only by the shelter. Therefore, we are looking for a local and experienced foster (with Asian breed or similar dogs) or a foster to adopt we can pair with a willing rescue. The shelter said, 'Hosito was fine with everyone in the home including the children ages 2 to 9 yrs old. Hosito at times would hide from the 2 and 4 yr. old but didn't show aggression, but there had always been issue with food between the two dogs. This time though the altercation occurred.' Sadly, Hosito ended up attacking the other dog in the home over food, resulting in the other dog being seriously injured, and his owners surrendering then Hosito to the shelter. At the shelter, he has not done well in a kennel environment and is very stressed. We just received an update on 10/13 that stated, 'When he was first removed from the kennel, he remained defensive, lunging and snapping at me whenever I got close to him. After allowing him some time to walk around the yard, he did approach me and allow me to pet me him. I was able to do a full handling assessment on him, and then allowed him to spend the rest of the day in my office with me. After about an hour or so, he began to solicit petting from me, even going so far as to place his feet on my lap and nudge my hand when I ignored him. He remained hesitant to approach anyone else that entered my office, but did not display any overtly defensive behavior. ' We are now waiting for a video from the shelter, and are desperately looking for a qualified foster or foster to adopt that understands a dog like Hosito, probably with no other dogs at this time due to the food aggression. We would seek to pair you with a rescue partner (so foster/adopter likely needs to local to a willing rescue) who can also assist with training. If you are interested in FOSTERING/RESCUING/PLEDGING to save Hosito, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network asap. Please note we are not affiliated with the shelter, this is a courtesy posting because he is unadoptable to the public via the shelter and you must go through a rescue.
