More than anything, Mac wants to be by the side of a kind human companion. Mac likes your company when he goes out to the yard or to eat his meals. He's a pack eater! He wants your company! While you are in the kitchen preparing food he will not get underfoot and will lay down in an out of the way spot, and observe quietly. He waits 5 paces back and will sit while you put his food down and needs a verbal OK to eat. He doesn't like being left in the yard by himself and will yip to let you know its time to let him back in so he can keep you company. He is eager to go on walks and puts his head through the collar if you hold it out for him. He is careful not to pull on stairs. He will easily go on a 1.5 - 2 mile walk. Shady stops and cool temps help black dogs, as they overheat easily. He needs reassurance and reminders to remain calm and steady on a short leash when passing neighborhood dogs and learning a new route. He was not frightened by children passing on skateboards. He walks in heal position and only pulled when he saw a rabbit, cat or a chihuahua run. When the animals were quiet, he was also calm. He has been learning to control that impulse and only stop and smell or point. Self control takes time but he is a willing pupil and learns quickly with a 'leave it' command, redirection, and praise for neighborhood walks. Mac takes treats gently. He also followed me around the yard and came when called off leash. Returned after chasing a rabbit as though he had been trained for it. Doesn't chase birds or retrieve toys. He's uninterested in exploring the yard by himself and may be quite happy in an apartment with 3 potty walks a day. Mac is a low energy dog and sleeps all day on his bed, happy to keep you company while you work on the computer or watch TV. He really prefers being in the house or wherever you are. He is quiet and only barked when a friend knocked at the door. After introductions and being told 'it's OK, get back ' he accepted the man without being overprotective and then wanted belly rubs. This guy just wants to make friends and get along! He rides in the car like gentleman, doesn't stick his head out the window, bark or bounce around. He waits to be leashed before getting out. He knows all the basic commands: 'sit, stay, down, come, leave it'. 'Get back' is a new command he learned in 3 days to prevent crowding the door and usually does it without being told now. He's off to a good start on the door manners and can use a bit more practice. He might know 'off' but since he doesn't climb on the furniture. He has been sleeping quietly all night by himself on his bed in the living room while I slept behind a closed bedroom door with the cat. He never gets into trash or tears up furniture or shoes. I have left him alone in the house unrestrained for 3 hours with no problems. I bought him a stuffed badger toy and he will groom it and move it next to his bed as a buddy sometimes. He waits patiently for you to wake up and will greet with little wiggle kisses. He accepts handling readily for brushing, bathing, tending to dry spots and veterinary work and will automatically lay down to help out with any inspections or Vitamin E or coconut oil on his dry spots. Mac is just a great buddy and ready to give back all the love you give him with interest. No cats please :(' Mac is a Labrador Retriever. Why somebody would bob his tail, I have no idea! Mac is 10 years old and weighs 71 pounds, pretty big for a lab. Mac is a wonderful wonderful dog. I have no idea how he could end up in a shelter. Mac has been a favorite in his foster home, he stays close as the foster mom does chores or works on the computer. Mac will be a great off leash dog, he just want to be close to her family. Mac is wonderful with other dogs, the foster mom calls him the ambassador, because his presence makes the room calm and the pack happy. If there is a scuffle, Mac is out of there, he does not want to be involved. Mac has great house manners and is house broken as well as dog door trained. Please come meet this marvelous boy and give him the forever home he truly deserves. 602-316-8919 no texts please
