About Dash

Adoption Fee: $50.00
Border Collie mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

We need help. It breaks my heart to be writing to you about this. We have a short hair Border Collie. We got him as a puppy. 'Dash' is not the first dog we have had and not our first Border Collie. We had a Border for 16 years and lost her about 3 years ago. We also have 3 small dogs (Chihuahua and one Chihuahua mix). All of these dogs have gotten alone together and have even been camping with us. Dash is about a year and a half old. He has been a good companion but has recently missed out of social events (dog park, trips to the store, etc.) due to this virus. He is very energetic and loves to play ball and Frisbee is our large fenced in backyard. Yesterday the unmanageable happened. As my wife was letting the dogs back in the house from the backyard Dash attacked one of the other dogs. This was not a minor who's the boss skirmish. Dash grabbed the chihuahua and threw him around like a rag doll. My wife had to forcibly remove the small dog from his mouth. The smaller dog was severely injured and we spent hours at the doggy ER in Copley. Looks like the chihuahua will survive but had to have surgery to repair the injuries. Our concern is obvious. We love Dash but fear that we will not be able to provide a safe environment for the smaller dogs and give Dash the freedom he needs. He is crate trained but craves the exercise time he gets. I fear that once he has bitten like this that it could become a serious problem later. He could easily have killed this dog and this isn't the smallest of the three. Will this aggression carry over to small children. We have small grandchildren who are never left unsupervised around our dogs but it only takes a second. Can you help us?
