About Dixie

Meet Dixie Dixie and her mate Buddy are bonded and will be adopted together.These super sweet doggos, have no business in a shelter. We hope we can find them their forever home soon. They were dropped-off at a high-kill shelter when their family situation changed recently. We rescued them just as soon as we could. They arrived at our shelter on August 8, 2020. They are incredible and will fit into any home. The situation they are in now is really tough on them. Let us tell you about them. Dixie is a Beagle/Dachshund mix. She's four years old and weighs just 25 lbs. She is incredibly sweet and gentle. Well-mannered, most likely house-trained. She is calm, quiet, walks well on a leash and welcomes any attention. Dixie is affectionate and friendly. She seems dog friendly, but will give chase to a cat so will need to be in a home without them. Buddy is a retriever mix. He's seven years old and weighs 62 lbs. Like his best mate, he's also amazing. He's calm, quiet, well-mannered, obedient, walks well on a leash, friendly, affectionate and so gentle. He's most likely house-trained. We expect he's dog friendly and we'll test with cats for potential adopters. We can't say enough good things about Dixie and Buddy. Whoever had them before must have loved them a lot. These two do everything together and are very companionable. They are incredibly well-behaved and we can tell they just long to be in the quiet and safety of a home. They have become shelter favorites. They will make for incredible and loving companions. They've been through a lot, but are holding up like champs, always with a ready tail wag and doggy kisses. If you're looking for two wonderful and easy-going dogs to open your heart and home to, Dixie and Buddy may just be the ones you're looking for. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
