CHOWCHILLA - ID #A048511 - RESCUE ONLY - MEDICAL Berkeley Shelter, Berkeley, Nor Cal Adorable Chowchilla is estimated to be approximately 10 years old and is described by the Berkeley shelter as a very sweet , friendly and gentle chow girl. Sadly, she was found as a stray in very neglected condition with noticeable patches of her fur missing and discolored skin- and it was soon discovered she was suffering from hypothyroidism. Thankfully, since coming into the shelter, she is now on medication for this condition, and feeling and looking so much better! Chowchilla is now quite friendly with staff and other dogs, and we have several videos we can share, along with her medical records attached. However, because Chowchilla still needs to be spayed and this cannot be done until some of her skin sores further heal (she has some enlarged mammaries from being bred, but they did not see any masses), the shelter has made her Rescue only. This means we need to find a foster or interested adopter to pair with a rescue group to save her. The shelter may also consider a local foster and we can have you speak to them, or an adoption once she can be spayed. A rescue may also assist with some of her medical needs, although the cost of her thyroid medicine is relatively inexpensive and the shelter is willing to provide a supply. C howchilla currently is overweight due to the hypothyroidism and is currently 80 lbs. However, her meds should greatly help with her recovery and weight loss. Chowchilla now walks with a pep in her step and regularly climbs up stairs. The shelter said she is very potty trained and waits to be let out. We are looking for a loving home to welcome her.
