About Zoey

Adoption Fee: $75
Chihuahua
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

Foster location: Boise ID Breed: Chihuahua Age: 11 years Adoption Fee: $75.00 Spayed, Vaccinated, Microchipped Adoption Application: http://fuzzypawzrescue.com/adopt/adoption-application-2/ Zoey is quite the spunky little chihuahua. At 11 years young (just celebrated her 11th birthday on August 1st) she still has a lot of love to give. Zoey's former owner had a medical emergency causing Zoey and her dog-siblings to be surrendered to Fuzzy Pawz Rescue. Zoey has lived with cats and dogs and has done well with all of them. Zoey does have a slight prey drive for small pocket pets like birds and rodents so should not be left unsupervised. Zoey is energetic, fun and loving. She likes to run around in the back yard and isn't shy about dipping into a play bow to initiate play. She equally loves being a lap pet and is very happy about being on or next to you while you sit on the couch. She is very loving and bonds quickly to whomever she is around. She does well with men and women once she gets to know you. Zoey does come with a few quirks: First, Zoey does have what we call 'collar sensitivity' where she can be very touch shy of her collar area. When she's on your lap you can pet her and run your hand over her neck and ears, but if you go to hold her collar, she will often yelp, snap at the air and run away. We know that she has worn a shock collar in the past and believe that this collar sensitivity is a direct result of that use. She cannot be adopted to a home that will use a shock collar on her in any capacity. She also cannot go to a home with kids under 15. The good news is that Zoey will jump right up into your arms and there is little need to hold her collar. Second, Zoey likes to go for 'joy rides' where she escapes the house and makes a fun game of chase in the neighborhood. Zoey's foster has been working with her on the commands 'wait' and 'back up' while they are at the door to allow for safe entry and exit from the home without any escaping. Continuing with this training is recommended for Zoey's safety. If for any reason Zoey does escape, it's important to not panic, to follow her in a non-chasing way and then trying to initiate play. If you run away from her, she will often follow you right back into the house as it is a game to her. Practicing this in the safety of the back yard is really important. This little girl is ready for her new forever home with someone ready for a goofy and loving little dog who is willing to continue to help her stay her best self.
