About Hondo

Hondo is a pure bred cane Corso. He's approximately. 8 months old. He's currently being fostered with our director as he came into our program with some behavioral issues that needed to be worked through. Where he is great with our director and her 11 year old daughter he will not be adopted out to families with children. He came in to our rescue with resource guarding issues and where we've worked through most of this he may still have issues with high valued treats or toys. Our director island her daughter are able to safely take anything away from him but in a new home it may take time before he allows just anyone to take things from him. He currently lives with other dogs both small and large but because of his past resource guarding issues applicants with other dogs will be looked at on a case by case basis. He has not been around cats, however, with proper introductions we think he'd be fine. We understand most adopters are going to want a dog they can cuddle and be affectionate with from the start. This will not working with Hondo and initially he will need an adopter that is patient and when he solicits attention are able to limit that attention to short brief pets. He needs time to learn to trust his people before allowing lots of physical affection. Our director and daughter can do anything to him and he allows it and enjoys their affection but he has also been with them for a couple of months now and has learned to trust them. He still has a lot of bouncy puppy energy and loves toys and having the ball thrown to him. He's housebroken. He's great on the leash on his property but is still a work in progress getting him to leave where he's comfortable on a leash and will put on the breaks and doesn't want to leave the yard. Because he is still a work in progress, we are hoping to find a home in the San Diego area where we can offer ongoing support to our adopter to ensure he continues to make progress and will eventually learn the world is not a scary place.
