About Charlotte

Charlotte's human mom has recently moved into memory care, and the house we've lived in is being sold, so I must find a home for Charlotte. While meeting one potential new owner, she bit a ~ 9 year old girl on the nose, barely breaking the skin on one side. (She's had nearly no exposure to children since we got her 7 years ago.) She is unpredictable around other dogs, except for two she's known a long time. Her prey drive is very strong. She will try to pull you down to get a rabbit. I use a leash that attaches at the waist, and stretches before going tight, but I suspect a person needs to be at least 120 pounds to walk her. Her virtues are great as well. Her energy is nearly boundless, so that two hours per day of walking is nearly the minimum for her. As a result, her owner was in the best shape of her life at 65, and was able to live at home far longer than most people at that stage of Alzheimer's. Charlotte is bright, very loving and playful, and almost never lets the leash wrap around anything on our walks. She is nearly as clean as a cat, with less dog smell than any canine I've met. She has always slept with a human since we got her. In the 7 years she's lived here, she's had 11 different adults as housemates. She's been good to all of them. She's been extraordinarily healthy after our first year together. At 7, the vet said that if she appeared at the shelter, she'd estimate that Charlotte was only 3 years old. She is 8 years old and about 55 pounds. She lived her first year with people who beat her. The woman with Alzheimer's also hit her sometimes. We have to leave this house by August 19th.
