Rita is our only adoptable animal at this time. Her previous post reached almost 18k people, yet she still is without a home. Rita should not be this hard of a dog to adopt out. She is house trained, crate trained, and muzzle trained. She has met children before and is awesome at the vet. Loves everyone she meets. She responds very well to firm verbal corrections and thrives with words of encouragement and reassurance. Rita is going to require TWO WEEKS MINIMUM of adjusting to your home and schedule. We call that 'decompression'. That means don't plan on taking her places or introducing others for two whole weeks. Instead use that time to build your relationship with her. Transitioning from home to home is very stressful as it is and a stressed dog is not going to be a happy one. This transition time should be done for ALL dogs, not just Rita. Rita has had numerous positive interactions with other dogs and has also had some negative. The negative were not her fault. How you introduce and to what type of dog you introduce her to is key. She is not going to be a 'dog park dog'. Ideally, she would be the only dog in the home. Her circle of canine friends would be small. She does not tend well to pushy, in your face, and hyper dogs. She's more of the 'you keep to yourself and I'll keep to mine' and we'll go on about our day. She is going to be the best companion for YOU, don't adopt her expecting her to be a companion for another pet. Rita is not a bad dog and is loved by MANY.
