About Red Oak

Adoption Fee: $75
American Staffordshire Terrier mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

To all pitbull lovers that can hear my plea: My wife and I rescued a Pitty mama and four of her puppies, just after July 4th. %BCThey were trapped by a woman, in a house that was uninhabitable%BC.%BC She said that she fed and watered them twice a day; in reality they had no access to food or water for so long that they all were absolute skeletons on the verge of starving to death.%BC We negotiated with her, and she allowed us to take all five. I am so happy to say that after a month, everyone is strong and healthy and happy. Mama, whose name is Red Oak, is approximately 50 lbs., we've given her basic vaccinations, and she's on Advantix II. She needs her rabies vaccination. We're trying to set up an appointment to get her fixed, now that she is no longer nursing. Money is very tight right now. She needs a forever home desperately. We cannot keep her long-term.%BC%BC We've taken to calling her Okey-Dokey; she seems to like it better. She's been around several dogs and is coming out of her shell, learning to play and socialize. %BCWe have a small schnauzer (20lb), a miniature poodle(11lb), and run a doggy daycare from our home; she's been socializing with dogs from 5 lbs. up to 70 lbs. Watching her personality emerge%BC and learning to play has been so much fun; she has a small, squishy, blue bone and a little octopus she's picked as her favorite toys. Her temperament is loving; not aggressive. All but one baby has gone to their new homes. She has been around many people including our grandchildren and she adores every opportunity to get petsy-pies, hugs, attention, and love of any kind. We are surprised how openly trusting and %BCloving she is, after the way we found her. Somehow she kept her puppies alive even though she was emaciated to skin and bones. Her recovery has been remarkable. She will need to have a very healthy diet; including healthy oils, probiotics, and prebiotics at each feeding. She is now eating twice a day with a snack in between. %BCWe are still treating a skin condition%BC with corticosteroid and an anti-fungal. It appears to be Seborrheic Dermatitis, non-contagious, that developed as a result of the systemic and long-term starvation she endured%BC. She's already looking so much better. Whomever her forever family is going to be, must have the financial stability and ability to care for her special dietary needs and her medical needs.%BC I'm sure she will make a full recovery within six months to a year.%BC She is so adoring and desiring of love that she would give anything for a forever home with someone who loves her. We want to make sure she never ends up in the same situation again. She deserves better. We are looking for someone who wants to be adored and protected for life and can give her the same in return. We hope we can find her forever home with a little help from our dog-loving friends . https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0IGrq0zwuUWuG
