PREFERS A HOME WITHOUT Other dogs, cats, children. Meet JELLYBEAN Meet JellyBean 3 years old 65 lbs West Haven, CT At the shelter in New York City where JellyBean arrived as a stray, the volunteers said, 'JellyBean takes his time making new friends but once the key to his heart - food - is found, he will warm up quickly. He needs a special person who will understand that he has a guarded heart and will make friends at his own pace. Once he knows you, he will show off his good side, rolling around on the floor and happily dancing by tapping his front feet. A quiet home where he will have the space and time to do this would be ideal for him. Once he gets to know his people, he will be a loyal friend.' Based on what we've learned about him, we suspect he's been mistreated in the past and, understandably, it takes him some time to warm up to his person (or people) and begin to trust them. With his current foster mom, he's really begun to blossom in her care. 'Jellybean is very special,' she says. 'He promotes himself as a tough guy, but far from it - he's truly a lover! JellyBean is a happy soul, just scared someone is going to hurt him which is completely normal. Although he's nervous and confused, he's feeling more confident every day. He has an amazing sense of character, loves to explore and learn. He's pulling through in his own time. He's come a long way since he first arrived and I believe in him. He's finally beginning to learn to love life.' His foster mom also reports that JellyBean loves his toys, is well-mannered with food, and takes treats nicely. He is well behaved/trained, low-key, and knows his basic commands. He walks well on the leash; doesn't attempt to bother anyone and is non-reactive (indifferent) to other dogs that he passes by - he looks to his trusted person for reassurance and guidance. Since loud noises and sudden movements make JellyBean nervous, and knowing he is very protective of 'his person', he will be best set up to succeed in an experienced, adult-only, single-pet home that is calm and low-key where he can continue gaining confidence and building his newfound trust of humans. JellyBean's definitely been hurt to the soul,' says his foster mom. 'He just wants to fit in and he's slowly starting to believe that no one will ever hurt him again. Now, he's just waiting for that family that wants to give him a permanent home and love him forever!'
