*** EXPERIENCED ADOPTERS ONLY *** Pretty, pretty SKYE is a 1.5 yr old, 40 lb., female Labrador Retriever/Weimaraner mix that came to us as a surrender. Prior to coming to our rescue, Skye had received no vetting, and little socialization. Skye was 'heart worm positive' due to neglect, and we put her through the American Heartworm Society's preferred 3-shot, fast kill protocol, and she did wonderfully ! Skye is a dear sweet, loving girl, once she warms up, but she does have initial 'trust' issues. She is selective with what men she likes. Skye is a dog that you will have to be cautious with at first until she knows and trust you. After that, she is happy, listens well, learns well, and will let you do just about anything with her. She seeks guidance from her person when nervous. Skye is a jumper; very athletic. She is hyper active and reactive when bored. She is mostly good off lead, comes when called (after bonding period with her, of course. She loves hugs from her peoples! Belly rubs are wonderful, and lots of them! 'Booty scratches, too. Skye is 'face shy', but once you scratch her ears, she melts like butter. Skye is a picky, self-limiting eater (sometimes so we spoil her with wet food and other enticements). Skye does have lots of 'quirks' but is also one of the most loving, cuddly dogs you could ever meet. Due to her youthful energy and sometimes nervous nature, we strongly recommend no children under the age of 6 yrs old in the household. Skye walks fairly well on a leash, but may pull out of excitement and curiosity, so leash training will need reinforcement for a few more months. (Skye likes to try to pull a bit at first and take minimal correction to have her act appropriately.) Skye would do well with other dogs her size or larger. She has been cat-tested and did well, however if bored, may try to chase cats and other small animals. An ideal home would be an athletic owner, and a quiet, calmer environment. SKYE is fully vaccinated, de-wormed, on monthly heart-worm preventative, crate-trained and house-trained. (Skye is not yet 'spayed', as this cannot be safely done until the 6 month after last HW shot blood work check up). This rescue does not do it's own 'shots' ... all medical care is done by a licensed, certified Veterinarian or done under their direct supervision (ex., monthly heartworm treatments &/or deworming). All of our rescued dogs have been on a nutritional regime which includes high quality food and supplements (ex., probiotics; vitamins, etc). This is done to bolster their immune systems and overall health; the result benefits their adoptive family with a pooch who has a lustrous coat, bright shiny eyes, and happy and healthy disposition.
