Will you be the one? Courage has had a rough start to the system and was originally taken in as a stray at the County shelter. He is a 1 year old Terrier mix that weighs just under 9 pounds full grown. Courage was very anti human and fought his hardest to reject all the people that tried to be friends. A few staff members broke through his hard shell and found the happy playful pup on the other side that he tries so hard to hide. Courage needs a patient home willing to go at his pace and not rush him to be friends. He is very food motivated and can be slightly bribed by hot dogs and other tasty treats! Courage has loved being around other playful dogs and may thrive in a home with a super people friendly dog to help him socialize and learn to trust humans. He has done well with all adults but needs a home with no children under the age of 18. He walks great on a leash and rides well in the car, though he may require house training as he adjusts. The kisses and play bows are worth the few moments of courage he needs to build up to make friends! Once happy and loving life Courage enjoys talking and would not do well in an apartment environment. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and vet checked. His adoption fee of $240 includes a free vet visit. To potentially adopt Courage, please come to our shelter location at 1102 W Hatcher Rd in Phoenix 85021, open Tuesday to Sunday 11am to 6pm. --Covid update: To adhere to CDC guidelines, we are open for adoptions only at a max capacity of 15 people in the building at a time.
