About Bear

Meet Bear Rescued and safe�'�|Bear is a gorgeous German shepherd/Rottweiler mix. He and his friend, Piper, were rescued from Cobb County Animal Control when their owner wasn't able to care for them due to health reasons. Bear had rescue, but Piper was in danger of being euthanized. Bear and Piper have lived together for a while, including in foster care, before they came to our shelter. When their futures became uncertain we wanted to make sure they were able to stay together and find soft places to land. They arrived at our shelter on July 26, 2020. Since arriving Bear has been a wonderful dog, just as his foster and all who know him told us. He's about five years old. He's super handsome with a dark thick beautiful coat. He has the personality of a big easy-going teddy bear. Bear loves everyone. He's great with people and kids, he does well with dogs and cats. Bear walks well on a leash and rides well in a car. He has wonderful manners. Bear has been serving as Piper's guide (Piper is 10 years old, blind and responds to voices and presence.) While Bear and Piper could be adopted separately, our greatest wish is that they can go together. They aren't truly bonded, but they do enjoy each other's company. Both dogs are wonderful and are easy to be around. Check out Piper's profile too. These two have had a very uncertain life and it hasn't been easy for them. Perhaps you can be their hero giving them another chance at a life filled with love, security and safety. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
