About SANDY-shy girl

Adoption Fee: $550
Pit Bull mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

SANDY was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved and transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine SANDY is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, heart-worm & tick disease tested negative, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. She weighs around 40 pounds and has an estimated date of birth of 22nd June 2019. We have no idea the exact breed of any dogs so it is up to you to look an decide what you feel the breed is and be sure you are familiar and capable to care for that breed or breed mix. Sandy was picked up from the shelter and was pregnant when she was spayed, so this would clearly have added to her already traumatic experience. She is a very shy somewhat fearful girl although she is extremely gentle. She has been through so much and never shown any sign of aggression, which speaks volumes for her character. Sandy was put in a kennel when she first arrived at the rescue, but when we saw how fearful she was, we moved her over to the back-pack and then up into the house so we can spend a little more time with her. During the evenings I bring her into my bedroom so that she can get used to me and gain trust - she is a little over-whelmed with everything, but when I am outside she will stick close by, showing that she feels safe with me. I can pick her up and she is fine, of course not comfortable, but again no aggression. In the bedroom she is fine with the cats, curious at first but with her being so unsure of everything around isn't likely to bother with the cats anyway. Sandy is slowly starting to come around and is truly the most sweet, gentle girl there is. She started to relax and instigated play with one of the pups and she really enjoyed herself. Sandy would benefit from a family that understands the breed and their needs, and also the negative attitude that comes from these beautiful souls. We are looking for a family that will understand she has been through so much and needs to be able to build up trust and form a relationship, she isn't going to be a dog that will go running into your arms straight away. A family with another dog would be great as she can see the trust and relationship with the other dog and humans, but is not a requirement. We are looking for a family that is not too busy where it will be over-whelming, but outgoing and fun so when she has learnt to trust she can live in a fun, happy, outgoing and active home that will give her all the love and lifestyle that she deserves. Be sure to check out her webpage on the rescue website for more pictures and videos. All dogs use dog doors to go out and do their business or to enjoy the cool, fresh weather in their dog runs or communal areas. We cannot say if a dog is house-trained, however, we expect families to understand that all dogs need a transition period and accidents could happen and training is most definitely needed. All dogs are fed Rachael Ray Nutrish PEAK Natural Dry Dog Food, Grain Free Western Grasslands Recipe with Bison. Rachael Ray Nutrish Peak Dog Food receives the Dog Food Advisor's second-highest tier rating of 4.5 stars. SANDY is available for an adoption fee of US $550 This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of saving all of the dogs we do, the running, upkeep and maintenance of the rescue. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. All that is needed to take dogs into Canada is a copy of the adoption contract (receipt) and current rabies for pups over 3 months of age.
