About Bodee

Adoption Fee: $150
German Shepherd mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

PLEASE READ TO THE END BEFORE APPLYING! Bodee is the perfect mix of playful and cuddles. He loves life and appreciates everything about it despite having Dandy Walker. Bodee came to us with neurological problems that he has had since birth. He has balancing issues that make it hard for him to stand up and he often spins in circles and falls down. Bodee is a happy guy though that makes the best of his situation and never lets it get him down. He is full of joy and compensates very well despite being born without part of his cerebellum. Though he still runs into things and sometimes hits the floor with a thud... he can do a few stairs here and there and can even turn on a dime. When he runs he is fast and keeps his balance the best. It is quite impressive to see him run outside and never run into things though it appears he might. Bodee is an amazing dog that manages to live an amazing life where he is happy as can be. His normal is just different than other dog's normal and honestly his derpiness makes him both unique and extra lovable. He has no idea he is different and still runs, plays, jumps, fetches and chases water coming from a water hose. The part of his brain that is missing plays a vital role in coordination and balance. The rest of his brain is healthy and doing great as you will be able to tell by how smart he is. He is nearly house trained and can maneuver around practically any obstacle once he gets use to the layout of an area. The veterinary staff at OSU believes he isn't in any pain, that is shouldn't get any worse, and he has a good quality of life. He loves other dogs and plays very well with ones his size. He needs slow intros with smaller dogs as he gets very excited to see them. He currently has a 14 pound foster sibling he does very well with. He can sometimes bump into or fall down on top of littler dogs but they like him too as long as they are tolerant. He feels cats are meant to be chased so work and some time would have to go into proper introductions with a cat. He is most weird with both cats and little dogs when they are being carried for some odd reason. He is a big 43 pound teddy bear that warms everyone's heart he meets and loves BIG time though he can be a bit shy for the first few minutes he meets someone new. We fully believe that even though this is as good as it gets for Bodee, he is still going to make someone a wonderful companion. He is great in the car but doesn't walk great on a leash as that is simply something physically very difficult for him. He zigs and zags when he walks and concrete is more dangerous for him. He will not be the type of dog you can take on walks with you unless you can get him use to a wagon. He is great at following his people around in the house and in the grass though and has amazing recall. He is crate trained and loves to chew on his Benebones. He will play happily with squeaky toys and leaves the stuffing inside them. Bodee is a special boy that deserves the very best! Before applying please do your research on Dandy-Walker. It is not something that is treatable. Bodee is just the way he is meant to be and the part of his cerebellum that is missing will never develop. We will say that he manages just fine and is smart enough to learn new things and show you how he doesn't let his disability stop him from being a wonderful dog and as well as extremely entertaining! Bodee is currently 43 pounds and is still growing. He is thought to be a Shepherd/Chow Chow mix though we really don't know what type of Shepherd or what all his mix is. He is 8 months old and will require a home without long flights of stairs. Bodee is one of a kind and it's hard not to fall in love with him. He is special because of his handicap... but even more special because of how he loves. Bodee's adoption fee is $150 and he is vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. You may apply to adopt him at www.pawpatroldayton.com/adoptable-dogs. He has already seen a neurologist and received a MRI so there should not be any additional costs except for normal pet ownership costs.
