About Odin

German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Was obtained off of Craigslist from 20 something year old guy from Manchester, NH. He is full blooded amd registered but I do not have copies of papers. Was told he was 3 months, vet said he was 6 months. Did notice blood in his urine when I got him, brought him to vet, antibiotics cleared it up. He is neutered and 3.5 years now. His vet is Lakeside Animal Hospital in Tilton NH. When I requested they location chip him they said it had already been done and gave me a phone number to call for info, but I did not follow up. Good health, with the exception that he does not make tears so has dry eye. I flush with saline several times a day and clean them out. He is fine with me doing it and very patient. (treats after don't hurt) follow up with vet, life long condition but there are different options to treat, such as drops or surgery, sunshine makes it worse, I have just started training him to wear goggles. He is muzzle trained. Though I don't use it on him often, once when I brought him to the vet. Trained at No Monkey Business training and at home. Has completed level 1 & 2. Loves to go to training, is very food motivated. Loves to learn. Currently use pepperoni for training, he sees it and knows its time to train. Skills and verbal commands Sit (Verbal & Hand signal) Down (Verbal & Hand signal) Get Behind Me. Drop it Leave it Velcro (comes to left side) Right Side (goes to right, not always reliable) Protect (goes behind you and sticks his head and shoulders between your legs) Go to your bed Go to the living room Heel (not always reliable depending on distractions) Come (mostly reliable, depending on distractions) Lets go inside/ go for a ride Stay (somewhat reliable, depends on distractions) Gimme 5 (paw) Wait Go to your fence (go to the bathroom) Gentle (for food and kisses, working on it) No jumping (NOT reliable, wants to jump up to kiss people, very excited when visitors arrive, big enough that he will knock a child to the ground if he jumps on them, working very hard on polite greetings, and no jumping) He thinks he is still allowed to jump as long as his paws dont touch, not ok. He is part kangaroo. Is crate trained (I will generally put him in crate when visitors come, until he relaxes a bit) Exercise Generally walk several miles. Loves the woods. Loves large balls and toys, good at catching. Very athletic. LOVES the flirt pole. Walking I have him on a prong collar that he responds well to, with out it, there is pulling. Working on loose leash walking and heel, currently doing well. Reactive to other dogs. Will bark and lunge, but quickly snap out of it with prong and distractions. Tried gentle leader, he still pulled too much. Home Great guard dog, barks to car doors, etc. Territorial of the home, will bark at passerbys and dogs if outside. Have an electric fence , responds well to that. Loves car rides. I make him sit in back, i usually leash him in because when I first got him he jumped out the open driverside window over me excited to visit the vet. High Prey Drive Loves the flirst pole, but has also caught several squirrels, a bird and a cat. (drop it command has worked well) Other Dogs When I first got him I had an older dog. He very much wanted to be the dominant dog. Will bark at strange dogs and lunge. When I have had him around a friends dog he was fine. But he has not had a lot of other interaction, aside from school. Aggression The only aggression I have seen from him toward people is when he gets hurt. He will lash out and try to bite or show that he could (putting teeth on you with out biting down. 3 incidents since I had him, 1 broke skin, but all were due to him being in pain/hurt (me with split toe nail, at the vet when getting neuteted, hence the muzzle, nail caught on clothing while jumping to kiss, so def watch the jumping. ) Food Currently eats blue buffalo lamb and rice formula, treats, not a lot of people food, ice. 2 cups of food twice a day. Doesn't respond well to yelling or aggressive behavior. If he believes you are threatening him he will NOT back down lightly. Or he will go the opposite way and drop to the floor and submissively pee every time he sees you if he is afraid of you. If he is peeing in house it is fear, because otherwise very well housebroken. He does respond well to lots of praise. Very well behaved and a gentleman, but young and still excitable, I work very hard to not let him get over excitable. He is hilarious. You will laugh, a lot. He is a HUGE drama queen. He screamed bloody murder his first bath, Ive been using waterless shampoo, much easier. He is trained on the paw perfect nail file. Was sprayed with a hose once, big drama response, it has taken a year and a half to make him not afraid of it, please don't spray him. Barks at the vacuum, rake, and lawn mower and will try to pull them away from you so I crate him for those times.
