About Vick

PLEASE NOTE: OREGON, WYOMING, OR IDAHO RESIDENTS ONLY Vick is a very sweet and loyal shepherd mix who was brought to a vet to be euthanized for being heartworm positive and having a broken toe (yes, really). We rescued him and he has been since treated for heartworm and his broken toe has healed. Vick has some quirks but is overall very well tempered. He is absolutely fantastic with little dogs and puppies. I can leave him unattended with a hoard of littles and he plays with them gently and is very sweet. He does however get apprehensive when a bigger dog comes along and goes into defense mode. He growls and his hair stands up. He stops as soon as you verbally correct him with a stern voice, but he will always need slow introductions to bigger dogs. He is crate trained and walks well on the leash. He also listens well off leash and stays on the property during play time. But he will need a fenced yard unless it's a big property (10+ acres). Normally I am not proponent of tie-outs but he actually enjoys that as well and does really well on it. He enjoys sleeping outside (weather permitting) on the tie-out and being the guardian of the property and actually prefers that to sleeping inside if the weather is nice. He is very submissive to his human so correcting any behavior is very easy. He follows and is very loyal. He has never showed any aggression, not even growling, towards any humans. He does have a bit of prey drive so a home with no cats is a must (he only chases if they run but of course you can't avoid a cat running at some point). As mentioned, he has been treated for heartworm, but he will not test negative until in about 6-12 months, therefore he cannot enter WA state at this time (only after he tests negative). His adopter must live outside of WA. He is currently in Oklahoma, but he can go on our next transport. The transport will be going through WY, ID, and OR so he can be adopted in either of those states. He will have to be picked up directly from transport and his adoption fee has to be pre-paid. He does need to be kept on monthly heartworm prevention, but that is a requirement for all of our dogs. He is fixed, current on shots, microchipped, treated for fleas and ticks, and dewormed.
