About Opie

We first met Opie at Long Beach shelter, where he was nervous of new people and depressed about being in the shelter. We got him out of his kennel and took him into the play yard, and within minutes he'd settled down and started playing with us. Opie takes a second to warm up to you, but once he does, he's friends for life! Opie is a 5 year-old American Bulldog. He is a gorgeous boy and weighs 71 lbs. Opie is finishing up with a trainer. He has learned leash manners (he was already pretty good on-leash), he doesn't protect his toys or food, and seems really happy just hanging out with his person. Opie can be protective of people he loves. He is house-trained, crate-trained, and rides well in the car. Opie has a playful side and really loves just hanging out with his people. He's an indoor/outdoor dog who likes to sleep in his crate or on a dog bed next to his humans. He also likes just relaxing outside in your backyard on the grass, especially if you're there with him. Opie would be good with middle-school aged kids and older. He seems relaxed around other dogs his size. We have not cat-tested him so we'd say probably no cats at this time.
