Fence Yard Required Meet India, a gorgeous 1-year old female Border Collie/Aussie mix located in MA/NH area but originally from her namesake country. This pretty lady is healthy, spayed, and looking for a new home. She is currently being fostered by wonderful owners who are helping her come out of her shell, and she's also working with a trainer who would like to offer complimentary sessions to India's furever family. India's foster mom has described her as 'all kinds of happy.' An active, playful, and intelligent dog, she loves learning tricks, cuddling with her people, going for walks, and more. Though she's timid with new people and dogs, India has quickly bonded with her fosters, and they and her trainers are working on socialization and commands. So far, her confidence has shot up, and she has learned to sit, stay, give kisses, lie down, and more. Though very loved, India is up for adoption after seriously injuring a small dog during a mutual fight. There was a bullying from other dog that led to the incident, and though India has played well with 'all kinds of dogs' during training, she would still do best with no fellow canines on her home turf unless they're very confident and non-reactive. Potential adopters should also be aware of some resource guarding issues; India has growled at dogs who approached her food. She has not physically aggressed as long as the other dogs backed down; however, it is reason enough to use caution with pets and guests. India sometimes needs space when first meeting new people and dogs, especially if she's on leash or they're in her territory. However, she has bonded quickly with her fosters and is making excellent progress with training, so her behavioral prognosis is looking better and better. India has been a star student with both her trainer and her fosters. Her ideal family will continue her training so her confidence increases and her sense of 'stranger danger' decreases. As a high-energy girl who loves play groups during training, play dates on neutral turf with a confident, active dog or two could be a great step towards socializing and desensitizing India. Additionally, India may do well with a feline companion; she followed and groomed a previous owner's Bengal. As smart and happy as India is, her fear and herding instincts sometimes get the best of her, so any children should be dog-savvy and at least 14 years old. In summary, India is an intelligent, playful sweetheart who needs some extra reassurance that she is safe. With confident, dog-savvy owners, continued training, and plenty of exercise, she will certainly thrive. If you are interested in India, you can fill out an application!
