About Blue

Adoption Fee: $150
Border Collie mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Blue is a sweet girl. We adopted her from a local county animal shelter, who picked her up as a stray. She's very timid, but is starting to come out of her shell. She's wonderful with adult females and children, letting my youngest crawl all over her. However, she has displayed increasing fearful aggression toward my husband, by barking and growling when he comes into the house or into the room, and barking with some lunging towards him if he touches myself or the children. She has NOT bitten anyone, but we don't want it to get to that point. We have been working with a vet and behavior therapist to correct this behavior, but it has only gotten worse. The professionals have suggested that a male may have abused her and/or she was never properly socialized as a puppy. It's our great sadness that we find we need to rehome her, and at our vet's recommendation. Other than the issue with my husband, she is a good dog, and will be great with some continued training. We've been crate training her, working on her counter-surfing (she's a tall dog!) and getting into the kitchen trash can. Blue is a Border Collie mix. We're not sure what she's mixed with, but some guesses are Lab and/or Husky. She is spayed, and we've gotten her up to date on all her vaccinations. She is microchipped, and we can transfer that to her new humans. She's on Nexgard for flea/tick control and a heartworm pill. In addition, she takes apoquel daily right now to help her with some minor allergy symptoms on her front paws. She's currently around 52lbs, and the vet recommends she weigh between 57 and 60lbs, so we've been working on getting some weight on her. She doesn't beg at the table. She's very calm and timid. She walks very well on a leash. She's not had much interaction with other dogs, other than through a fence and displays curiousity but mostly indifference. We have not encountered small animals (ie, cats) so I'm not sure about her temperament with them. We are very very sad to have to re-home Blue, but feel it's in her best interest to be in a home with no adult males so she can be happy and continue to protect 'her people.' We are asking a re-homing fee to ensure she goes to a good home. Vet reference will be required.
