About BESS

THIS BEAUTIFUL DOG IS READY TO BE ADOPTED INTO SERVICE WITH POLICE or MILITARY. Please note: This dog is not suitable as a service dog for persons with disabilities. BESS is a rescued 21-month-old healthy female, dark brindle-colored with distinct tiger-stripes with white chest/paw tips and golden-brown eyes. She has a cute floppy ear, probably from birth. I had her spayed at 9 months before she ever experienced a heat. Her shots are all up to date. BESS was abandoned by a resident in my neighborhood and rescued in Dec. 2019. I've been fostering her ever since now to see if she can fit into our farm lifestyle. We believe she is a Dutch Shepherd-type mix. She weights about 100 lbs, is still puppy-ish but is quite responsive and seems trainable. I put her in 3 weeks of basic obedience training with a pro trainer. I've spent quite alot of money on her because I had hopes she would have a home with me. We LOVE this beautiful dog and hate to part with her. she is aggressively protective of her handler and home. She has a high prey drive, high energy and needs a job that utilizes her endurance and strength. She may have to be muzzled around strangers. BESS is too bored to be content to just be a farm dog. She needs to be with a working dog professional who can give her the exercise and handling she was bred for to perform in the service of others. BESS has the following natural-born abilities: A soft mouth but will play a tough game of tug of war, herding instincts and seems to track scents and detect things that are out of place really well. Can run at superspeed for pursuits, gets high airborne leaps, and can jump up to and down from great heights, similar to a Belgian Malinois. Does not seem to bark much, unless alerting about something. Strong enough to pull a cart. Can be socialized with other humans, dogs, livestock BUT wants to aggressively chase cats. She is content to be in a non-diggable kennel and on a tie-out cable when resting outside the kennel. BESS is free-of-charge to a verified working dog professional upon approval.
