About BONZAI

Adoption Fee: $550
Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

BONZAI was transferred from a rescue in West Texas to GaDaH. Bonzai is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, lepto, heartworm and tick disease tested negative, is on monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention, microchipped and at the time of transfer in May 2020 weighed around 50 pounds. She has an estimated date of birth of 22 November 2017. BONZAI has had a tough life and was very sick when we got her. She had had 12 pups and over time they had died or had to be euthanized, she had been used as a breeding dog and even at just over 2 years was totally exhausted. She had an auto-immune disease where proteins were attaching to her red blood cells, which caused her body to attack them. After treatments of antibiotics and prednisone (a steroid) she started to improve and two weeks after her prednisone treatment finished we ran another blood panel and the wonderful news is that she is all back to normal, which is exciting and fantastic news. The downside to being on steroids is that she has gained a good amount of weight, which of course is a small price to pay to being healthy again, but we are looking for a family that will ensure to work with her on diet and exercise to make sure that she loses that extra weight. BONZAI has grown into a very happy, fun loving girl, she is playful, affectionate, she loves life, loves to explore the garden and woods, is great with other dogs, loves all humans and rides great in the car. She has had the worst few years of life, thanks to horrible humans and we now want to be sure she gets everything she deserves in life. She needs a family that is willing to do annual blood checks just to be sure that nothing happens again, there is no reason for it to, but of course it is always best to keep on top of things. We have not seen BONZAI around cats, livestock or children, so we expect families to take precautions when introducing her to new things. Her personality does not leave any concern as to her not being friendly with children, as long as they give her space, respect her and not treat her like their toy! All dogs are fed Rachael Ray Nutrish PEAK Natural Dry Dog Food, Grain Free Western Grasslands Recipe with Bison. Rachael Ray Nutrish Peak Dog Food receives the Dog Food Advisor's second-highest tier rating of 4.5 stars.
