***TO BE KILLED BY NOON 7/10/20*** INTAKE DATE: 6/17/2020 Smiley SPUNKY is a Shy Guy in Need of a lot of Decompression What a face! Super handsome indeed! Spunky is a young, healthy, solid fella who is seeking a loving home. His previous home wasn't a good fit as he needs structure, guidance and and patience. He is treat motivated and smart. Holding his own at the shelter and slowly responding to training. He is seeking a true bond, someone to respect and someone who will respect him. He's a good egg deserving of a chance to become the super doggie he was destined for. A big heart, a big personality in a big body! If you are interested in Spunky, please message our page. Smiley SPUNKY is a Work in Progress :) SPUNKY@BROOKLYN ACC Spunky ID#96535, 3 years old, 58 lbs Came into shelter as a Owner Surrender Large Mixed Breed, GRAY unaltered male MEDICAL BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: BEHAVIOR RATING: New Hope only Spunky was surrendered to the care center for behavioral issues: his owner reports that he hard barks, growls, and lunges toward strangers, and snaps at children and the resident dog. He also resource guards, though he has not escalated to biting. While here at the Care Center, we have not seen the reported activity towards strangers, but he's been hyperactive and displays conflicting but concerning behaviors. The very first day of interactions, he urinated on himself after pressing his crouched posture against his handler's leg; he then pushed his head into her hand, seeking attention. But when engaging with him, Spunky freezes. He displayed the same behaviors when collaring him. When giving him treats, he initially took them softly but as the session progressed he began holding onto the giver's fingers after taking the treats. When attempting training sessions, Spunky is extremely sensitive and fearful at the slightest movements and noises. For example, a staff member's hand brushed against the button on her pants, and Spunky startled and almost flattened himself the to the floor at the sound. Spunky is so scared of being at the shelter and needs time to feel safe and decompress . Please save him ! Please text or call Kat at 516 4573678 , he doesn't have much time before he is murdered by these monsters that have no compassion of what he has been through . A rescue would like to help pull this angel however they need a placement for this animal to do that , a foster or adoptee ! Spunky is on the highest trazodone dose we administer but this medication is not strong enough to overcome his intense fear and anxiety. His leash biting is intensifying, biting up the rope and at hands. He will thrash to the point where he becomes a safety concern for himself and others. It seems as if walks and outside time are more stressful than helpful. He enjoys frozen puzzle feeders in kennel but has shown no interest in other enrichment items we have provided, such as ice blocks, knuckle bones, and pig ears. We have been doing in-kennel training with him to reduce the stress of coming out of the kennel, but Spunky needs significant rehabilitation to overcome what appears to have been traumatic confinement in a previous home. He needs more than we are able to provide in a shelter environment, so we are asking a New Hope partner to take over his care and build his confidence in a calmer, quieter home environment. Spunky's owner surrendered based on behavior reasons. . The 4th digit of his Left Hind foot had an observed abnormality which could be a healed or healing fracture or ligament tear. It is not currently causing him any pain. FUN FACTS: Summary (1): Spunky's Training: 6/18: CHARGING CLICKER: The handler clicked her clicker and then tossed a treat to Spunky.
