About Daxon

Adoption Fee: $320
Australian Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Daxon is a very sweet 1.5 year old male, black and tan Australian Shepherd mix weighing around 40 lbs. He knows how to sit, lay down, come, walk on a gentle leader and he is learning to 'wait' and 'stay.' He is also potty trained and loves being outside to run around and bark at the birds. Daxon would do best with a calm leader as his forever human, as he has a bit of anxiety when it comes to new sounds, places, and people. Daxon does great playing with other dogs that are calm and love to play. Dax is very motivated with the right (high value) treats and will sit immediately! He does have some tendency to guard his food, rawhides and other toys, so being fed in a kennel is best and refraining from reaching for his toys while he has them. He has issues guarding bones and food with other dogs and his foster home continues to work on calming down when faced with new sounds and experiences. Daxon's anxiety manifests itself in a nervous pacing when he gets too excited, and he needs someone who is patient and will help him calm down. Dax was previously trained with an e-collar and prong collar - both being painful - so he still exhibits some issues from that type of negative training: he does not like his collar grabbed or his head being petted. He is most comforted by his humans when they tell him to sit and they let him know everything is okay. Daxon does ok with cats inside, but he chases everything running outside, including your cats so a home without them would be best. He LOVES to run and play outside and needs exercise. A large fully enclosed fenced yard is needed for this lovebug to live his best life since he is so young and active! He will bark if he sees or hears other animals, so a privacy fence would be best. He also walks well at a fast pace on a leash with his gentle leader as he will try to get away so he can chase birds, bunnies, etc. He has done okay when being left alone for small periods of time with another dog, but has not been left alone all day. Daxon's forever family should only use positive reinforcement when doing any training with him. He does not respond well to punishment or any negative reinforcement; that amps up his anxiety. He needs someone that is going to show him just how loving humans can be while teaching him the rules of the house and working on socialization/obedience training. He would be his best self in a home with adults and another calm dog he can play with and lead him. Daxon is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, and he just received a monthly flea preventative treatment. Monthly preventatives are required for adoption. Daxon is fostered in Lincoln, NE. NEEDS: A large, fenced in yard to play and roam - privacy fenced is preferred A calm but strong leader who will use only positive reinforcement training methods Someone that will continue to work on his obedience training WANTS: A home with another calm dog to play with and take cues from Prior aussie experience is highly recommended Someone who will dedicate ample time to both playing and training .
