About Tate

Adoption Fee: $300
Cairn mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Introducing Tate! He is a 5 year old terrier mix who was found as a stray. He is underweight at 8.2 pounds, you can count his little bones. Tate's foster mom says it's been awhile since she's fostered such a sweet dog. He's the kind of pup you can hold like a baby and if you stop touching him, he gently paws at you for more affection. He's a precious little guy! He wants to be near you and loves to curl up next to you in a chair or on the sofa. At night he sleeps snuggled up in the big bed with his foster family. With his friendly personality his foster mom thinks he would be fine with older kids, but we don't know how he will be with younger children or cats. Tate is great with the other small dogs in his foster home and even takes one of the other dog's snaps and snarls with ease. He hasn't played with toys yet, but has played a little with other dogs. We think he will be more playful with both when he completely settles as he has good energy and likes to play with the garden hose! When his foster mom is out watering her flowers Tate goes crazy running and jumping in the water until he's soaking wet! It's so cute and funny and really shows off his playful side. Tate is good on a leash, but he likes to run and a fenced yard is preferred. He is not neutered yet and currently likes to mark in the house. His foster family is working on his potty training and hopefully his neuter will help with that. He has been to the vet for a wellness check and is up to date on shots and microchipped with a lifetime registration. He has a neuter and dental scheduled soon that are covered by the rescue as long as they are done at our vet. We are guessing that Tate spent some considerable time outside without proper heartworm prevention as he is heartworm positive. He has started the 'slow kill' treatment which involves 30 days of Doxycycline, given twice a day, followed by 12 months of Ivermectin. We will retest him at that time and, if still positive, we will provide another 6 months of Ivermectin and retest at the end of the 6 months. This will continue until Tate tests negative. The rescue supplies the medicine and pays for the tests. Tate is one of those dogs who will be happy anywhere he goes and someone is going to be very lucky to welcome him into their home!
