About Brownie

Adoption Fee: $300
Dachshund / Chihuahua
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Meet pretty Brownie! She is a 6-7 year old, 16.4 pound Dachshund Chihuahua mix with beautiful eyes. Brownie came in with another dog from Texas after they were owner surrendered. She is a very sweet girl, but timid at first. She will take a few days to get used to you, but once she gets comfortable she is a happy girl. Brownie actually came around in her foster home after she met her foster mom's granddaughter. She stretched out next to her to watch tv and was perfectly fine in her foster home after that! So we know she is good with older, calmer kids. She is also fine with both women and men. Brownie is a cuddly dog who likes to be next to you, but is also fine chilling in a dog bed. She does prefer to sleep in the big bed at night. She knows how to use doggy stairs to get up on the bed, which is a good thing as she has short legs and can't jump up on her own. The best part of rescuing dogs (other than when they get adopted) is seeing the moment they realize that they are safe and their personalities start to emerge! In Brownie's case that moment was when she decided she was comfortable enough to play with the other dogs. She gets down on the ground with her head lowered and her little butt up in the air and pounces with her paws toward the other dogs to get them to play with her. It's so cute! Of course when she first started doing it and the other dogs did it back, she ran and hid, but now she is having a good time running and playing chase in the yard. She is good with both big and small dogs. She has not been around cats since she has been with us. Brownie uses a doggy door but does not really like to go outside on her own. She is not housebroken yet, but is working on it. If her foster mom takes her outside and walks with her she will potty, but if not she will go inside. She likes food and is very treat motivated so that, plus walking with her on a regular basis, should help get her potty trained. A fenced yard is not required for her but she does need some work walking on a leash and harness. She would probably be fine as an apartment dog. Brownie has been to the vet and is up to date on shots, heartworm negative, spayed, and microchipped with a lifetime registration. She's a happy sweet girl who will make someone a great companion!
