About BERTIE-AR

Adoption Fee: $550
Jack Russell / Fox Terrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Sweet little BERTIE-AR was dumped back at the rescue on 2 July 2020 after being adopted on 17 August 2016 having arrived at the rescue on 25 June 2016. BERTIE-AR is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm / tick disease tested negative and on monthly preventatives. He has an estimated date of birth of 1 December 2015 and weighs around 24 pounds. It seems that Bertie didn't have too much a stable life in the almost 4 years he was gone and possibly had a few homes with different family members. He did spend time with a young girl and was great with her, but recently has been getting a bit snappy with other children, he is also territorial when in the truck. I am hoping to get more information and will up date if and when I do, but since he was just brought back without any prior notice, the paperwork that I ask families to complete on the dogs personality, lifestyle, likes and dislikes has not been done. Due to being told he has been snappy with other children, I am going to ask for a no children family, even though he did live with a young teenage girl - but since I don't know anything about the circumstance, it is always best to edge on the side of caution. I believe that Bertie has to feel confident with people in order to trust them and so he needs a family that understands he needs the time and patience, but also routine and guidance if he becomes a little growly. After being back at the rescue just after 10 minutes he was wanting to climb up on my lap and give me kisses. Bertie is a sweet boy, who deserves a family that is going to be 100% commited to him, he has been through a lot and most like has a few underlying trust issues, and as mentioned he was territorial in the truck, which is common for dogs, but this behaviour can be easily and should be stopped by letting him know that is not acceptable and humans are in charge, not him. He appears to love going for rides, he walks great on the leash, I would imagine he is housetrained, although accidents and marking should be expected since everything is new and it is a huge transition for him and he will be missing his family and confused as to why he is no longer with them. I believe that with a family that can show him stability, routine, trust and not allowing any kind of negative behaviour he would be a great addition. An active family is a must, he is a terrier and although small, they are high energy dogs.
