About Claire & Claude

Adoption Fee: $500
Poodle
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Poodles!!! Cute, sweet, and bonded pair Claude and Claire are miniature poodles who were surrendered due to a change in their owner's circumstances. Their decision was a difficult one caused by a recent job loss and a need to sell their home to relocate. Both Claude and Clair are wonderful dogs who have grown up together. Pretty princess Claire is an 8 year old brown mini poodle who weighs 12 pounds. Black and white Claude is 6 years old and weighs 15 pounds. They have adjusted well into their foster home and get along with the other dogs. Claire can be anxious in new environments or in the car or at the vet, basically any place that is unfamiliar to her. She gets confidence from Claude though and takes a lot of comfort from his presence. Claire is a mighty little lady and will be the boss of any dog pack. She will bare her teeth and growl and sometimes spring forward with sharp commands and nips to another dog who doesn't listen to her. However, she doesn't actually bite, but another dog may perceive this as threatening and aggressive, so other dogs in Claire's new home will need to be laid back and submissive to her. She is friendly with people and very quickly bonded to her foster seeking affection. She loves to be babied, likes to sleep in the big bed right up next to her person, and enjoys playing and tussling! Claire is a protector of her family; she jumped between her original owner's child and a large 80 pound dog who was acting aggressively and held off the dog until the neighbor could bring their dog under control! Handsome Claude took a little more time to bond to his foster mama, but now he is such a lover and enjoys attention. He loves to play with his foster fur sister, chases a ball and plays tug. He is gentle and kind, loving to be hugged and have his ears rubbed. He sleeps in the big bed or on the floor in a dog bed. Claire and Claude were housetrained in their previous home; but, have had some regression and accidents in the foster home most likely due to the sudden change in their lives. Claude has a tendency to mark but this is being met with gentle firm correction so he understands that behavior is not allowed and he is showing improvement. Neither Claire or Claude likes to go outside, but we are working to build their confidence and regularly walk around the back yard with them. They get hot easily so getting them outside regularly, but not long, to do their business is important. They should have a fenced yard as they don't do exceptionally well on a leash yet and Claude will run if something catches his attention. As with all poodles, they require regular brushing at home and also by a professional groomer. Claire does well with grooming; Claude is a bit more of a challenge. Neither dog has displayed bad habits and, true to the breed, are very intelligent! They do not display any chewing or destructive actions, no overly loud or obsessive barking, no bad behaviors toward any person, and no food or toy aggression. Claire is a bit possessive of her person and lap. Both will come when called and both (especially Claire) are eager to please and will follow commands. They spend their day with their person and foster siblings, doing some playing but also lying in doggie beds in their foster mom's office. They have lived with children most of their life and we think they would do well with children who treat them with love and affection. While Claire has no problem with the resident foster cat, Claude is intrigued by her and will chase her every chance he gets'|so a home without cats is probably best. They have been to the vet for wellness checks, are up to date on shots, are heartworm negative, and microchipped with a lifetime registration. Clair is spayed and Claude is scheduled to be neutered soon which is covered by the rescue as long as it is done at our vet. Please submit an adoption application if you would like to meet this sweet pair! They would love to be settled into a home again soon!
